is an around 3-4 yrs old tri color female basset/bagel mix,
also know as a "bagel". What a sweetie. Chloe was

is sweet, crate trained and very good with kids and people.
Chloe is special needs as she is on medication for seizures

Updated 2/01/2009
Dolly is 4 years old and was rescued by OBR 2 years ago and was very much "with children" who were born only 4 days later on St. Patrick's Day. They all had the luck of the Irish to be saved just in time of being euthanized and cared for and loved until they could be adopted to their forever homes. Dolly is very much a wallflower, and not social, who seems to enjoy the comforts of a home. She came to us with a crippled leg and it was confirmed by x-rays that it was an old break that was very severe and never treated, and now too old of an injury to be repaired. It healed improperly and is stiff, but Dolly still runs, goes up and down stairs and doesn't seem to suffer pain from it. She doesn't like a lot of people, especially teenagers. It is possibly that she had a bad experience with this age group and growls to defend herself. She also doesn't think much of men. After about a year, she thinks very highly of her foster dad and looks forward to him greeting her after work by saying "how is your day, Dolly Ann Madison." If there are visitors, Dolly prefers to become invisible. She is friendly with the other dogs in the foster home, and has always been very attached to her foster mom from the first day. Dolly loves walks, and listens well. If she were to be adopted, she would be comfortable in a home with woman, not alot of confusion, and a fenced yard. She enjoys exploring in the fenced yard and even napping on the deck in the warm seasons. Her vetting is current, and she is fostered in Stark County.

Handsome, smart,
active hound seeks loving family for moonlight or daylight walks,
evening cuddling, frequent games of fetch and tug and possibly
a friend or more If you want smart, curious and never ending
loyalty and energy, look no further. Ralphee is your guy. Weighing
in at just over 40lbs and the activity level of a young pup.
Ralphee is crate trained and good in the house. Ralphee likes
to be the center of attention when playing with the other dogs,
but seems to settle in to the pack over time. He is taking obedience
class and doing very well. Ralphee is curious and can get into
trouble, so activities that help relieve his boredom are recommended.
He can be vocal at times (what basset is not). He will need a
strong owner to show him the rules and help mold his behavior.

Okie is approximately
8-9 years of age. He was abandoned with two other bassets and
left in the backyard without any care for several days at a time.
Okie was heart worm positive but has received treatment and is
doing great. He is up to date on vaccines and recently had a
dental. He is a very young senior with still a lot of playfulness
left in him. Okie gets along with other dogs, is curious about
our cats and plays well with others. He is not food aggressive
or destructive in the house. He is doing well with housebreaking
and gets an A+ for his efforts. Okie is okay with being crated.
When we leave the house, Okie is put in one of our guest bedrooms
with one of our dogs with a baby gate in the doorway and he has
not had any accidents or caused any problems. Okie walks very
well on a leash and sits nicely for his food and treats. He loves
to lay next to you and is just happy to have someone pay attention
to him. At first he seemed a little hand shy, but with time he
seems to be getting better. I am sure someone is his past was

Update 09/22/2008 Babbs is still waiting for her forever home. Her foster mom says she is the softest basset she has ever had. She has a ton of personality and is very loving. Her back issues are under control and she only gets a pain pill on occasion when she seems a little stiff. She would make a great companion for someone looking for a lower key basset but also would do fine in a home with several other dogs as she enjoys the company of her current foster brothers and sisters. She enjoys her daily walk and likes to be outdoors with you when the weather is nice. She listens remarkably well for a basset, comes when called, and is totally housebroken. She takes treats gently, is good for baths, and is an all around well behaved girl. She is only 6 and has many years of love to give the right person or family. Carmen is a 5 year old
tri-color female found as a stray in Delaware county.
Update 6/17/09
Carmen is doing well. She is a very affectionate dog and loves to play with her chew toys and plays tug-of-war. She does not chew inappropriately, ie, shoes, clothes, etc. She has a stranger fear that we are working on. She is hesitant around new people, especially males. She seems to warm up to females faster. She is house trained and we let her out and walk her every few hours. She enjoys being outside and chasing anything that moves so a fenced yard is definitely preferred. We always keep her on a leash. She loves to ride in cars and will go with me frequently on short errands.

Jasper
is the sweetest senior, around nine, and there is nothing he
wants
more than someone to love and someone to love him. He was picked
up as a
stray and was just skin and bones, but he's looking a lot better
now.
He'll cheerfully allow his basset foster brothers to share his
food bowl
and loves absolutely everyone, although he will woof at them
a little when
they get up on the couch with him. He loves to sleep on the bed with his foster mom and really
loves to cuddle. When he first came into rescue he was emotionally
drained and so unhappy, but just the other day he actually
play wrestled with his foster mom for a minute. He'd be best
with someone
who loves to give affection because he'll gratefully soak up

Foster Home Needed |
Updated 5-27-2009
Nash is an 8yo "Bagel"(Beagle/Basset) neutered male who has adjusted to life with a family after a stressful start with OBR. Nash was terrorized by a larger Alpha male in his first foster home, so he was removed and spent some time at the kennel. Placement was difficult for Nash: he was anxious and acted out in his second foster home. Finally Nash has settled down and has become a loving member of an all male Basset household. Nash is happiest with small dog groups. Larger groups of dogs(more than 4-5) bring out Nash's neediness and he will tangle with any other Alpha male. Nash needs a strong leader who can lovingly challenge his anxiety.
Nash at times dawdles when he eats, but always eats when he is hungry. He loves treats, as do all our other boys. Nash is housetrained, loves to play with stuffed toys/socks, and loves to lead the evening "Romp" of Bassets. Nash spends alot of time outside on our deck, keeping watch over his yard! He needs a secured yard- he found every open space in our fence when he arrived. His ears may be Basset, but the tail, hunting instinct, and the BARK are all Beagle. He loves petting & kisses, walking & going to the dog park, but needs supervision. Car travel is not Nash's best thing- he will bark the entire time he is in the car. Nash would really benefit from being in a more active household, being with someone who could give him plenty of exercise and help him expend his nervous energy. His play can become aggressive, so he needs someone strong and no young children. Nash tolerates cats and welcomes visitors. He does not jump but does bark his greetings.
Nash is UTD on all vaccinations and is maintained on Heartworm/Flea preventatives.
Given a chance, Nash can be very loving. His need for love is great and he wants nothing more than to be with his person. He has many active years left and does not act like a Senior dog. He would be your devoted companion!

| Glenda |

Updated 12/1/2008
Glenda is a 4 year old tri-color sweetheart that will put a smile on anyone's face. She is friendly and fun with everyone she meets, people and pets. She might be 4 years old, but her energy level is comparable to a pup, and she plays for hours and hours at a time with the other dogs in the home that include 5 English Cocker Spaniels, and a Collie, who is her favorite wrestling buddy. Glenda is the most energetic of all the dogs in the home. She seems to want to get along with the cats, but they don't think much of any of the dogs and run off. A fenced yard is a requirement for Glenda. She runs after anything that moves, and has a lot of speed to go with that run! She sometimes wants to back out of a collar, and her foster mom is working with her not to do that. She is also getting used to a harness. Counter surfing is one of Glenda's specialties, and she also likes to jump. Just about the time I think she has learned not to do those things, she tries it again. She knows her foster mom is a push over, but with a little more work, she "might" learn to stop-but then again she is a basset! I would recommend that Glenda be with older children only, simply because of her jumping and because she is so strong. Glenda is crate trained, and house trained, but as with all the dogs she lives with, is a Velcro dog who loves being with me most of all. She is used to being me all day, except for errands, and I want that for her in her forever home. Glenda never minds a ride in the car either. She is being fostered in Stark County, OH. | Boss |
Jacquelyn Baker
412-561-2039
jacquelynbaker@comcast.net |
|
When
Boss first graced my doorstep, he did little more than sleep and
eat. So, his moniker seemed a bit odd for such an easygoing fellow.
However, he was still recovering from a hernia repair and vertigo.
Now, a couple of months later, Boss is living up to his name. My
nickname for him is Saucy Bossy, because when he doesn’t get
his way he’ll start telling you exactly what he thinks. Boss
is approximately 10- 12 years young, but don’t let his age
fool you…he’s a very lively and strong fellow. He’s
a real sweetheart who thrives on lots of TLC and being very close
to his people. He loves to eat, take long walks and be the only fellow
to command your attention. Boss has very long ears, so he battles
chronic ear infections. He gets an antibiotic solution in his ears
three times a week, and is very tolerant of the process. He has a
heart murmur and takes a pill daily for that, but since he loves
to eat, it’s no problem getting him to take his pill. Since
he’s such an active fellow, his weight hasn’t proven
to be a problem…yet, but there’s little else that captivates
Boss’s attention more than food…and long walks! Twice
a week he also takes Predisone for joint pain and to try and keep
his allergies at bay. Boss would do best in a home where he’s
the only dog, and where the owners are home most of the time. Boss
was found as a stray, and he had a scar on his head that suggests
a larger dog might have attacked him when he was out on his own.
He’s very friendly and adores people, especially the people
who walk and feed him. J He’s very curious about all other
dogs and seems very friendly, but when he actually gets near another
dog, he tells them off. We’re working on that, and while he
is extremely head strong, he is teach able. He does need a strong
master to let him know in a gentle way, that he isn’t always
the boss. J He still has residual effects of the vertigo, and sometimes
when walking he topples over and needs to remain on one floor, as
steps are a challenge for him. Boss does share the house with Abby
the Cat, but he doesn’t appreciate sharing affection with another
four-legger. Abby doesn’t care much for dogs, so whenever Boss
walks by, she hisses and bats at him, and he tries to steer clear
of her most of the time. They are fed in separate rooms, because
Boss thinks all food is meant for him…even the food his people
are eating. He’s not aggressive about mealtime, but he is a
extraordinary beggar, and any food within shot of his mouth will
invariably end up in his mouth. Hence, the reason he and Abby the
cat eat in separate rooms. He is no respecter of another’s
food…all food in his mind is meant for his belly. All in all,
Boss is a perfect name for this love bug. BOSS

Updated 11-02-08 Dexter is a fun pup who loves to cuddle. Not even reaching 40 lbs on the scale he is just right for tucking in next to you at night. Dexter is housetrained and does fine with cats. He sometimes thinks he is a watch dog and stays on the alert. He wants to be right by your side and is a real people dog preferring their company over other dogs. Dexter has proved himself to be very trustworthy in his foster home and is not crated. He has not shown any destructive tendencies and really listens to you. Dexter would probably be fine as an only dog and I think he would really attach himself to anyone who would be willing to share time with him. He is definetly looking for a person to call his own. Update 10/13/08 This little cuddle bug is just looking for someone that he can warm their bed and their heart. Clyde is a sweet guy who would probably really enjoy being an only dog. He has been a very good boy in his foster home and has run of the house and doggie door 24/7. Clyde will not be placed with children as he has not been exposed to small ones. He is the perfect size to snuggle with fluffy pillows and stuffed comforters. Clyde can be a real clown and occasionally likes to see how fast he can run through the house. If you already have a dog, Clyde will have to meet with him/her prior to adoption. He has had some bad experiences with aggressive dogs. He is fine with cats. Chelsea is 2-3 yr old beautiful little lady. She was found as a stray in the Dayton area and rescued from a shelter. She loves all the attention you can give her. She is very well behaved and is housebroken. She will come to you and scratch or whine when she needs to go out. Other than an occasional whimper she is very quiet and rarely barks. She is just so cute and loving.
She loves to exercise and lives for her walks. When it’s time to go out she will dance in circles on two legs while she waits for her owner to put her leash on. Chelsea is a very sweet girl who is very affectionate and thinks she is a lap dog. When she wants attention she will jump on the couch and crawl in your lap. Desmond is a 3-4 year old, solid black with a brown face. He has "googlie eyes" and is very sweet. He likes to play, & has adapted to our 3 rescue bassests very well. He is sometimes alittle timid towards new people/strangers & we think he had a previous past dislike towards men because we think he was abused. Once he warms up to you, then he is comfortable & loving. He loves to jump on the sofa & whereever he "lands", that's where he stays for belly rubs & hugs. He is smart; listens well; & has not had an accident in the house. He caught onto the routine & the "doggie door" immediately! We have had some children come visit, and he seems to do ok with kids. He does bark at our "outdoor/barn" cat, so we have no idea if he would get along with indoor cats. Desmond is very loveable and would do well also as a single dog in the household.

Brute
is a 10 yr old red & white male released to us by someone who found
him as a stray. He is a sweet little old guy looking for a home for
his final chapter of his life. Update 03/17/2009
Brute is feeling so much better these days. After a thorough investigation by the foster mom's vet, and participation in an investigational drug study, Brute has been diagnosed with Cushing's disease. Now that we know, he has a whole new lease on life. With treatment, he will enjoy the good life now that he so deserves.
Brute is very well behaved, walks very nicely on the leash, no pulling at all. In fact, his foster mom has trained him to walk by her side, and even when the others are pulling ahead he listens to her! He wants nothing more than to be someone's special "Buddy" and that is what his foster mom calls him. He is very friendly with adults and children alike and just loves all the pets that come his way. He gets along well with all the other dogs in his foster home. There are also cats in the foster home and he does not bother with them at all. Please consider making Brute your special "Buddy."

Maddie is a 5 yr old tri color female dumped at the pound because they were finished breeding her.
Update 3/29/2009
Maddie is doing well, appears to be gaining weight, and is making good progress with housebreaking, although it's been a labor-intensive process - lots of walks and trips outside. Crate training failed since she was highly stressed being crated, even though it was a large crate and placed in a family area. She gets along great with our basset and does not bother the cats (who actively avoid her.) She's very sweet, affectionate, and comfortable in a home setting - loves to look out the window, and would prefer to be a lap dog! She does bark a lot (very excitable), has slowly learned to play (this frightened her at first), and is certainly a lot less anxious.

Lance is a BEAUTIFUL 2 yr old red & white male who was part of a puppy mill bust. He was tied up in the court system for a month while they were trying to press charges on his abuser. In that time it was discovered that he was heart worm positive, but couldn't be released for treatment until the case was closed. It's obvious this poor guy has done nothing more in his short life but make babies. Because of his rough start, he is very nervous while meeting new people, but will warm up to them as soon as you sit down at his level. Lance plays well with the other bassets and hasn't shown any signs of aggression. Lance feels most at home when you're comforting him by holding him and telling him to be brave. He will gladly lick your cheek and sit in your lap for as long as you'll let him. Lance has just come into OBR's care and is still being evaluated. Updated 12-09-2008
Lance is heart worm positive and will be released for adoption when he completes his treatment the 3rd week of December.

Minnie is about 8 months old and is all puppy. Give her a ball and she will play happily by herself. She loves to play with the shepherd/husky mix in the household, but also likes to chase the other bassets. She is on the petite side, but is still young so may grow a bit more. Minnie seems to be housebroken, with only occasional accidents (mostly related to the human not opening the door for her to go out). She will require a securely fenced yard, as she will wander if left unattended, and she also needs another playful furfriend to keep her company. She loves attention from her people too, so lots of bellyrubs will be required. Minnie is up to date with her shots and has been spayed, so she is ready to be adopted to her forever home.
Updated 6-24-2009
She's a ball of energy, but is very good at entertaining herself when need be. She's an alpha girl and may not be good with small children. She's potty trained, gets along well with other dogs and cats.
Please fill out an application on the website if you feel that Minnie would make a great addition to your household.

Darla is a sweet, excitable 35 lb girl. She tries to convince you she is starved for affection even while your petting her. She has the sweestest personality. We crate Darla for feedings, as she is quite possessive of her food. Darla will share toys w/ her foster siblings, but food is a different matter. Her people can take food & off-limits objects away from her without problem though. Darla is not given full run of the house when we are gone. She shares a dog bed w/ Rocky (another of our fosters that she has bonded with & looks a lot alike) & they enjoy camping out together in our sunroom. Darla rarely has accidents in the house, but as her signals aren't clear to us yet, we err on the side of caution & let her out frequently when she is running around the house. She is between 1-2 years old & shows a lot of youthful enthusiasm. Wouldn't this little lady look great next to you on the couch!

Corky is a 3 yr old lemon and white male rescued from the Franklin county area. He is super friendly with everyone he meets, and is very curious around the other dogs. He is being fostered in Port Huron Michigan.
Update 5-30-09
Corky has now been nuetered and is ready for adoption. He needs a home with a fenced yard as he is full of energy and LOVES to run laps around the yard. Corky is not agressive at all but plays hard and gets carried away at times and therefore should not go to a home with very young children. He is too much for our 6 year old, iffy with our 10 year old and fine with our 13 year old. It depends on the child, he needs someone who can be firm with him. He would do GREAT with other dogs, in fact another playful dog could be just what he needs! He has not been around cats but doesnt seem to be intersted in our guinea pig. Corky was not potty trained when he first arrived but doing very well now, the only time he has issues is when the vacuum is on because he is afraio of it. Corky had a rough start in life and was very thin when he arrived, too thin to even get nuetered but after some food and love he nows weighs 47 pounds! He is a good dog and very funny, he just wants to play and be loved! If you need a few laughs in your life Corky is for you!
I learn more about Corky please fill out our adoption application on our web site.

Rocky is a dynamite 35 lbs. of basset-love. He is two yrs old. He loves to play w/ his foster siblings & can be very goofy. Rocky needs a firm but loving owner who can remind him he’s not the boss. Rocky is housebroken & is crated when we are gone & @ bedtime. He hasn’t had any accidents while he’s been with us. He has the typical basset nose & a beautiful aroo. Even though Rocky is young he settles down quickly & loves to lay draped across his humans. Rocky is super loving & friendly, but due to some past experiences he is not comfortable around children & will growl to show them who is boss. For this reason Rocky will not be adopted to a home w/ children under the age of 10. Rocky would do best in a home with a fenced in yard & another dog to play with. He loves to romp & then come in & crash on the couch. Rocky has not shown signs of food or toy aggression, but according to his past people he did for them. For us he will drop whatever he gets a hold of when you tell him to though. Rocky is a great little guy, that has lots of love to give & long silky ears to play with. Rocky is being fostered in Circleville, Ohio.

Update 3/30/2009
Barney is a 1-2yr old red and white male basset found wandering in the Morrow County area. This little guy is as sweet as they come as is currently being fostered in the Cleveland area.
Barney is a high energy, fun loving, super sweet boy!!! He is house trained with a doggie door and very well behaved when left alone indoors!! Barney walks very well on a leash and gets along with other dogs of all ages very well. He is still very curious about cats as he has 2 in his foster home, and we are learning slowly how to co-exist. He also plays with toys and knows basic commands such as sit and stay and he loves to snuggle on the couch too!!!
Barney would be best suited in a home with a doggie door and fenced backyard.. He would also love to have other dogs to play with and older children would be okay too!!
Anyone interested in meeting this awesome basset would be encouraged to fill out the adoption application on the OBR website and/or contact his foster mom Ashly Smith via her email listed above.

Updated 4/5/2009
Gustov is a 5 yr old tri who was rescued from the Greene county shelter. He is a very sweet and happy guy. He does appear to be housebroken and has had no accidents in the house during the two weeks that I've had him. Gustav had already been neutered when he came into rescue. He's underweight for his size at 58 pounds so I'm guessing he'll be around 65+ lbs. when he's at full weight. Other than that he's healthy and very, very strong. He loves to go for walks but will pull if he wants to get to something (be it a smell, another dog, or a person). He likes to play A LOT with toys, people (me) and other dogs around my neighborhood (his foster sister is 11 and will not play with him, so he plays with me when we're indoors). He would probably really like having a yard to hang out in and access to another youngish dog or dogs to play with. He does get excited when he plays so will get a little rough and will mouth (not biting down) but he will settle down immediately if you ask him to. Gustav loves meeting and being with people and is good with older children. He is not especially interested in young children and has shown some food aggression around them (none around adults, though). Because of his size, energy level, and food guarding behavior he will not be placed in a home where children under the age of 10 years will be present. There are four cats in Gustav's foster home; while he is curious he has shown no aggression towards them, and backs off when they let him know that he's too close. He is being fostered in the Columbus Ohio area.

Update 5/27/2009
Bunny is a 5 year old gal with a sweet and gentle disposition. Her favorite activities are finding new sleeping spots, seeking out cookies or other dropped morsels of food, and 'play fighting' with our 4 year old male basset. She is housetrained, gets along with the other 4 dogs in her home, and is friendly with all people. She finds the stairs in her current foster home to be a challenge, so a home with minimal stairs and 'low activity' is preferred. Her face lights up when she can go outside for a walk, or just lay in the sun. She will show off her basset bark whenever she wants your attention, and she loves attention, so be ready to spend some time with Bunny! She will sit and listen to your problems for hours, and with a tilt of her head and some unique groaning noises, seem to respond "It will be OK", then hop on your lap for a snooze. Bunny is being fostered in Dover, OH.

Update 3/27/2009
OBR's bloodhound mix puppies are now being fostered in Stark County and ready for their forever homes. These 3 brothers and 1 sister have one agenda-PLAY! They were at the vet's for weeks while 2 recovered from Parvo, and then 2 had eye surgery for cherry eye. They are cured and are all in good health. They require a fenced yard, because bloodhounds have the most powerful tracking scent of any dog. You should have seen them at the vet the other day howling at a jar of peanut butter on the counter-it is amazing what they can smell. They are friendly and playful with dogs of all sizes, currently being fostered with many dogs. One of their most favorite wrestling buddies is a St. Bernard. The pups currently weigh about 25 pounds, but are gaining weight and height every day. Although they are mixes, we feel they will still be good size-just look at those long legs. The puppies are being fostered in a home with children and are friendly with children but they jump and will knock over a small child very quickly. They are currently 18 weeks old. They have been spayed/neutered, vaccines are current, taking heartworm preventative, and microchipped. Please fill out our on-line application if you would like to adopt one-or two!

Ethel
|
Fred & Ethel are approximately 10 yrs old and were rescued from a dog pound in Eastern Ohio. It's obvious these two have spent years as a breeding pair. Both dogs are very bonded with each other and need to stay together. Ethel came in heart worm positive and has completed her treatment. Fred had a few teeth pulled, an ear infection, and a bump on his leg that turned out to be benign. Fred & Ethel are the cutest senior couple who ABSOLUTELY love attention. Sadly, due to the lack of foster homes these two are living in a kennel. Please help give these two a happy ending to a long hard life. Both dogs are up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed/neutered, on a flea & heartworm preventive and are microchipped. If you are unable to adopt at this time, consider fostering. They could surely use the love and attention they spent so many years without!

Molly is a beautiful approx 5 yo female that was dumped at the pound with her brother Max. She is a sweetheart and loves to take leisurely walks sniffing everything in sight.
Update 6/11/2009
Molly is an adorable basset. She will stand in one position all day for you to brush her or pet her. She loves to be touched. Molly is a quiet dog except when she has something to say or for fire trucks and police cars, then she and her brother will howl to the sky!!! They have taught my other dogs the chorus and what a harmony it is with four voices going full out!!!!! I will say Molly is house broken to a doggie dog. If one is not available, she will need reinforcement, but she knows the idea. Molly has free run of the house when I am gone, but as she is a little nosy, I would ensure items are high off the floor. I do crate her at night because it seems to give her some security and Molly gets a little shy if voices are a little loud.
It would be wonderful if Molly and her brother Max could be adopted together, but I feel she would be okay if adopted separately.

The little tank of the litter, Brutus was the pup that just loved to play with all of his brothers and sisters and anyone that would give him some attention. He was an easy choice to bring home. Brutus has been fed Blue all natural food his whole life but has a sweet tooth for peanut butter and cheese. He also loves to play fetch, yes a basset that will fetch and not just lay down after he gets the bone or toy. He will actually bring it back to you for more. He is full of life and really needs a home where he can run and a family that can play with him and give him daily attention. We just had a child and moved into a new home where our yard is very small so we cannot provide these needs for him. Once a new family sees my little buddy Brutus I know that they will fall in love with him too and give him the home that he deserves.

Reggie is an approximately 2 yr old tri color male rescued from a high kill shelter in Scioto county. This little guy is all charm. He is not only adorable to look at, with his super petite body and big droopy eyes, he's quite the clown too! Sadly, Reggie wasn't in the best of health when he came into our care. He tested positive for heart worms, kennel cough and is being treated for whip worms. Despite all of those burdens he refuses to let it get him down. Reggie loves going on walks and will dance wildly at the end of a leash. He seems to enjoy the company of his houndie buddies at the kennel and loves napping in the sunshine. Reggie has just come into OBR's care and is still being evaluated. As with all of our dogs, he's up-to-date on his vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, and on a flea prevenative. Reggie tested positive for Parvo and has completed his treatment.
Update 6/14/2009
Reggie has completed his treatment for Parvo and has one more dose of heartworm medication on 6/27. He will be available for adoption after that date. This little guy has been through a lot these last few months and is just now starting to feel 100% again. He is currently in a foster home on crate rest. His foster family says he loves squeaky toys and carries them wherever he goes.

Baylo is a bunch of fun. He is a "Hey come on let's play" sort of guy. He dances around you trying to get your attention. Baylo would be fine with older kids but is a bit large and playful for the younger ones. If you're looking for a basset for the bed..well he is more than willing to fill the position. He loves to sleep with his head on you and/or draped across you. Baylo has an outgoing personality and has done well with all the dogs in his foster home. He has shown himself trustworthy in his foster home and is not crated...but he can be crated if necessary. Baylo would fit best in an active lifestyle that he can be a part of. Holly is a 7 yr old female basset mix who was rescued from the Wooster area the day before she was scheduled for euthansia. She was found as a stray and brought to a county shelter. When her time was up, the shelter staff contacted basset rescue on her behalf because they couldn't bear to let this sweet senior girl go. She looks more dachshund and possibly Lab than basset. She sniffs like a basset but doesn't bark like one. Whatever her heritage is, Holly is a friendly girl who rides well in a car and seems to be housebroken. She is also good in a crate. She is okay around other dogs but may need to be separated at feeding time. She will also let more rambunctious dogs know when she has had enough of their antics. Holly is in good shape for being found as a stray. We can't know what kind of life she had before she ended up on death row at the dog pound, but we're sure she will make some lucky person a nice, low-key pet in her golden years.

Spanky is claimed to be house broken, good with kids and is crate trained. He has a slightly deformed from leg that sits a little lower to the ground than the other. The vet who saw him said it looks as though it was a break that was never cared for or was a birth defect. Either way it doesn't seem to slow him down. Based on his history it sounds as though he has been shuffled a number of different times and REALLY needs to find a forever home. Millie is a BEAUTIFUL 3 year old tri color female rescued from a shelter as a stray. Millie is a really nice little girl. She's good on a leash but frequently checks back with you and stops for a cuddle. Very affectionate, gives kisses. Her tail went straight up when she saw a little girl and she made a beeline toward her. The tail was only halfway up when the girl's father came toward her, and also only halfway up when around other dogs. She was good with other dogs, just seemed a little unsure about them. She was within a foot of a cat outside but didn't smell it, see it, or hear it when it meowed a few times. Mille has just come into OBR's care and is still being evaluated. This handsome hunk of hound is Hank. Hank came into his foster home and made it his own. He does very well with other dogs and cats. He is about 4-5 years of age and is moderately active. Not wild but not quite a couch potato either. He is low key and takes whatever attention he is offered. Hank has a pretty mellow personality. He is up and into the thick of things when the other dogs start to play but the rest of the time he is curled up on a pillow. He was picked up when someone called him in as a stray but the humane officers really felt he may have been an owner surrender because he seemed well fed. He did require a common surgery on his eyelids to correct an irritation from his lashes and he needed a dental but his overall health was good. Hank has been so well behaved in his foster home that he has the run of the house even when we are gone. He has not been a barker and can be crated without problems if needed. If you are hound hunting, Hank wants you to know that he is hoping for a happy home to call his own.

Georgia is a beautiful 3--4yo peach (hence her name). She was a Petland puppy mill dog and has been shuffled around alot in her short life. She prefers the comfort of a cool home rather than being out in the heat. She loves to use that beautiful basset voice. She requests a playmate to play with. She has a ruptured eardrum from chronic infections which has caused some hearing loss which hopefully will improve ih time. She hears fine out of the other ear.She may have some arthritis in her back knees but this does not prevent her from playing! We are working dilligently on pottytraining. Isn't this Georgia peach for you?

Cosette is approximately 4 1/2 years old. She gets along with children of all ages. Cosette lives well with other dogs and even shares her food without any signs of aggression. She has not been given any table food while in our possession. She eats her dog food and is given one or two treats a day. Cosette enjoys going on walks around the neighborhood and socializing with other dogs. She only barks when the doorbell rings or if other dogs are barking. She especially enjoys her cuddle time. She loves being in the company of people. She is very laid back and has a classic Basset laziness about her. However, she really enjoys playing fetch with her favorite toys! Cosette is crate trained at night and while home alone. She would enjoy being with someone who is not gone for long periods of time. She is currently on Frontline Flea and Tick prevention and Interceptor Heartworm prevention.

Foster Home Needed |
This little guy is Benihana. He was found as stray and taken in by a kind person who was unable to keep him. She did take him to her vet and had him scanned for a microchip but none was found. The vet thinks he is about 1 year old and seems to be in good health. He currently weighs 34.8 lbs but could stand to put on a little weight. Benihana is being kenneled at Eastgate Vet Hospital in Cincinnati due to lack of foster homes where he will be available after he has been neutered. Benihana did spend two nights in a home while awaiting transport to the kennel. While there he was a perfect gentleman, got along with three Bassets and a German Shepherd, showed no signs of food or toy agression and seemed to know some basic commands. He was crated at his temporary home and entered with just a little coaxing. It's hard to believe that no one is looking for this sweet little guy who seems to be no trouble at all. He has had no accidents while at our home. Please help little Benihana find the new forever home that he deserves.
