| Dolly |
Maribeth Walker
furkids5@verizon.net |
|
Updated 2/01/2009 Dolly is 4 years old and was rescued by OBR 2 years ago and
was very much "with children" who were born only 4 days later on St.
Patrick's Day. They all had the luck of the Irish to be saved just in time
of being euthanized and cared for and loved until they could be adopted to
their forever homes. Dolly is very much a wallflower, and not social, who
seems to enjoy the comforts of a home. She came to us with a crippled leg and
it was confirmed by x-rays that it was an old break that was very severe and
never treated, and now too old of an injury to be repaired. It healed
improperly and is stiff, but Dolly still runs, goes up and down stairs and
doesn't seem to suffer pain from it. She doesn't like a lot of people,
especially teenagers. It is possibly that she had a bad experience with this
age group and growls to defend herself. She also doesn't think much of
men. After about a year, she thinks very highly of her foster dad and looks
forward to him greeting her after work by saying "how is your day, Dolly
Ann Madison." If there are visitors, Dolly prefers to become invisible.
She is friendly with the other dogs in the foster home, and has always been
very attached to her foster mom from the first day. Dolly loves walks, and
listens well. If she were to be adopted, she would be comfortable in a home
with woman, not alot of confusion, and a fenced yard. She enjoys exploring in
the fenced yard and even napping on the deck in the warm seasons. Her vetting
is current, and she is fostered in Stark County. DOLLY GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HER WADDLE LEVEL

Handsome, smart, active hound seeks loving family for
moonlight or daylight walks, evening cuddling, frequent games of fetch and tug
and possibly a friend or more If you want smart, curious and never ending
loyalty and energy, look no further. Ralphee is your guy. Weighing in at just
over 40lbs and the activity level of a young pup. Ralphee is crate trained and
good in the house. Ralphee likes to be the center of attention when playing
with the other dogs, but seems to settle in to the pack over time. He is taking
obedience class and doing very well. Ralphee is curious and can get into
trouble, so activities that help relieve his boredom are recommended. He can be
vocal at times (what basset is not). He will need a strong owner to show him
the rules and help mold his behavior. Are you up to it? . ROSCOE GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HIS DROOL LEVEL SPONSOR....JANET

|
Update 09/22/2008 Babbs is still waiting for her forever home. Her foster mom says she is the
softest basset she has ever had. She has a ton of personality and is very
loving. Her back issues are under control and she only gets a pain pill on
occasion when she seems a little stiff. She would make a great companion for
someone looking for a lower key basset but also would do fine in a home with
several other dogs as she enjoys the company of her current foster brothers and
sisters. She enjoys her daily walk and likes to be outdoors with you when the
weather is nice. She listens remarkably well for a basset, comes when called,
and is totally housebroken. She takes treats gently, is good for baths, and is
an all around well behaved girl. She is only 6 and has many years of love to

Updated 8-3-2009 Nash
is an 8yo "Bagel"(Beagle/Basset) neutered male who has adjusted
to life with a family after a stressful start with OBR. Nash was terrorized
by a larger Alpha male in his first foster home, so he was removed
and spent some time at the kennel. Placement was difficult for Nash:
he was anxious and acted out in his second foster home. Finally Nash
has settled down and has become a loving member of an all male Basset
household. Nash is happiest with small dog groups. Larger groups of
dogs(more than 4-5) bring out Nash's neediness and he will tangle
with any other Alpha male. Nash needs a strong leader who can lovingly
challenge his anxiety. Nash is patiently waiting for his forever home,
for he knows it will be a place where his people are incredibly patient
and loving. Time can heal alot of things for this boy but he has displayed
a fear of water that is so sad. Nash does not like to get his feet
wet and will resist going outside even AFTER a rain. Last week I was
hosing down the deck -normally the boys all scatter. This time Nash
did not get past me and he cowered in the corner, curled up with his
back to me, crying. Even after I put the hose down, Nash continued
to cry as he slithered up to me. It took some tender words and some
ear scratching before Nash calmed down and was able to trot off to
the back of the fenced yard. He must have been sprayed with a hose
often, perhaps to the point of tormenting. Perhaps he lived a long
time in a kennel? No matter, Nash now loves playing with pull toys
and toys with squeekers!!NASH GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HIS DROOL LEVEL SPONSOR....CYNTHIA

Urgent Boss Needs Your Help
When Boss first graced my doorstep, he did little more than sleep and eat.
So, his moniker seemed a bit odd for such an easygoing fellow. However, he was
still recovering from a hernia repair and vertigo. Now, a couple of months
later, Boss is living up to his name. My nickname for him is Saucy Bossy,
because when he doesn’t get his way he’ll start telling you exactly
what he thinks. Boss is approximately 10- 12 years young, but don’t let his age fool
you…he’s a very lively and strong fellow. He’s a real
sweetheart who thrives on lots of TLC and being very close to his people. He
loves to eat, take long walks and be the only fellow to command your attention.
Boss has very long ears, so he battles chronic ear infections. He gets an
antibiotic solution in his ears three times a week, and is very tolerant of the
process. He has a heart murmur and takes a pill daily for that, but since he
loves to eat, it’s no problem getting him to take his pill. Since
he’s such an active fellow, his weight hasn’t proven to be a
problem…yet, but there’s little else that captivates Boss’s
attention more than food…and long walks! Twice a week he also takes
Predisone for joint pain and to try and keep his allergies at bay. Boss would do best in a home where he’s the only dog, and where the
owners are home most of the time. Boss was found as a stray, and he had a scar
on his head that suggests a larger dog might have attacked him when he was out
on his own. He’s very friendly and adores people, especially the people
who walk and feed him. J He’s very curious about all other dogs and seems
very friendly, but when he actually gets near another dog, he tells them off.
We’re working on that, and while he is extremely head strong, he is teach
able. He does need a strong master to let him know in a gentle way, that he
isn’t always the boss. J He still has residual effects of the vertigo, and sometimes when walking he
topples over and needs to remain on one floor, as steps are a challenge for
him. Boss does share the house with Abby the Cat, but he doesn’t
appreciate sharing affection with another four-legger. Abby doesn’t care
much for dogs, so whenever Boss walks by, she hisses and bats at him, and he
tries to steer clear of her most of the time. They are fed in separate rooms,
because Boss thinks all food is meant for him…even the food his people
are eating. He’s not aggressive about mealtime, but he is a extraordinary
beggar, and any food within shot of his mouth will invariably end up in his
mouth. Hence, the reason he and Abby the cat eat in separate rooms. He is no
respecter of another’s food…all food in his mind is meant for his
belly. All in all, Boss is a perfect name for this love bug. BOSS

He's 2 years old and has only complete love and happiness to give to the
people around him. Update 10/29/2008 Joey is a sweetheart. He loves to play outside with our puppy, and is even
gentle when he plays with our kitten. He is always up for a cuddle and enjoys
sleeping with people instead of alone. He is great with kids and other pets.
Joey is incontinent and is taking medication to improve it. The medication
helps a lot, but he still has his good days and bad days, so he has to wear a
doggie diaper. Aside from that, he is a great dog. JOEY GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HIS SMOOCH-A-POOCH

Maddie is a 5 yr old tri color female dumped at the pound because they were
finished breeding her. Update 3/29/2009 Maddie is doing well, appears to be gaining weight, and is making good
progress with housebreaking, although it's been a labor-intensive process -
lots of walks and trips outside. Crate training failed since she
was highly stressed being crated, even though it was a large crate and placed
in a family area. She gets along great with our basset and does not bother the
cats (who actively avoid her.) She's very sweet, affectionate, and
comfortable in a home setting - loves to look out the window, and would prefer
to be a lap dog! She does bark a lot (very excitable), has slowly learned to
play (this frightened her at first), and is certainly a lot less anxious.

Update 5/27/2009 Bunny is a 5 year old gal with a sweet and gentle disposition. Her favorite
activities are finding new sleeping spots, seeking out cookies or other dropped
morsels of food, and 'play fighting' with our 4 year old male basset.
She is housetrained, gets along with the other 4 dogs in her home, and is
friendly with all people. She finds the stairs in her current foster home to
be a challenge, so a home with minimal stairs and 'low activity' is
preferred. Her face lights up when she can go outside for a walk, or just lay
in the sun. She will show off her basset bark whenever she wants your
attention, and she loves attention, so be ready to spend some time with Bunny!
She will sit and listen to your problems for hours, and with a tilt of her head
and some unique groaning noises, seem to respond "It will be OK",
then hop on your lap for a snooze. Bunny is being fostered in Dover, OH. To learn more about Bunny please fill out our adoption application. BUNNY GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HER SMOOCH-A-POOCH

Fred
Ethel |
Update 8/04/09 Ethel - She is a very sweet dog that loves attention and likes to sit on
your lap. She loves to have her belly rubbed and usually flops over for you.
She is potty trained but has accidents during the night so she needs to be
crated if left alone for several hours. She seems to well around cats. She
tolerates taking baths. She loves to go for walks but tends to pull you the
whole time. She is learning a few commands. She knows OFF really well and is
still learning STAY and SIT. She is allowed on the furniture. She is a dominate
dog and will bully the boys. She is dominate of food, bed, couch, and
attention. We feel she would do well as an only dog but she does get along with
other dogs as long as she is boss.
Fred - He has a very laid back personality. He could easily blend in well with
any family and any other pets. He is potty trained and does not need to be
crated, although he seems to like it in a crate. He does have allergies which
he gets medicine for. He likes going for walks and will walk by your side most
of the time. He also tolerates baths pretty well. He is a heavy sleeper and
once he goes down for the night he is really tough to wake up and move. He is
allowed on the furniture. He likes attention but doesn't always seek it
out. He loves to have his belly rubbed. He does well with the Sit command but
ignores Stay and Off. He doesn't like to have his nails trimmed at all. He
is very food oriented and will eat everything in site.
Neither of these dogs will let you know they have to go potty. We have been
with them long enough to read their body language so to speak to know when to let them
out. They were easy to train with pee-pads. Fred does have accidents when in a
new environment. Sending some pics hopefully they come through.

Updated 2/16/2010 My name is Max. I am a friendly, handsome guy and am 5 or 6 years old. I
would love to be your shadow and protect you if you adopt me. My middle name
is affectionate so my new people will have to like to give belly rubs and
let me kiss them. I am a good boy for car rides, nails, bath and ear
cleaning. I am also leash trained but being a basset I sometimes am too busy
smelling stuff or looking for someone to play with me and forget I am on a
leash. I am also housetrained but being used to a dog door, if you don't
have one, I may need a bell at the door that I can ring as I don't scratch
or bark when I have to go out. My foster mom says I still have a lot of
puppy in me since I like to get into stuff so I need to be crated or in a
room where I can't get into trouble when I am home alone. I would really
like to be an only dog or maybe have a sister. One last thing, I was not
taken care of very well in my first home before OBR rescued me so my front
legs are a bit more crooked than they are supposd to be so I have to keep my
weight at 40 lbs. I don't like to tell you this as it will limit my snacks
but my foster mom says I have to tell all. It doesn't keep me from running
and playing. Please consider adopting me I'll be waiting for you.

| Sir Caesar Naps A Lot |
Maribeth
Walker
furkids5@verizon.net |

|
Update 7/17/2009 Sir Caesar Naps A Lot was left at the pound by his owners, with his papers
showing his name, a broken heart, and also heartworm disease. Caesar
isn't sad anymore, he is celebrating. He just successfully finished
heartworm treatment (7/16/09) and can now run and play like a healthy dog,
because that is just what he is. This 6 year old red & white basset boy
loves everyone he meets. Although he is a very friendly boy, it would be best
he isn't adopted with young children in the home. Caesar shows definite
signs of abuse. If you take him by the collar he gets very nervous and might
snap to protect himself. A child might not remember and grab his collar just
to play and he might unintentionally snap. I was sad to see that when I have
picked up the newspaper, or a spoon off the counter to stir something, he has
become frightened and left the room. All you have to do is tell him it is OK
and pet him, and he quickly remembers he isn't going to be hurt anymore.
Thunderstorms and fireworks are not his friends, but belly rubs, giving kisses,
mealtime, and his playmates are some of his favorite things. He is doing great
with housebreaking, only very seldom might make a pee mistake. Caesar LOVES
the freedom of the doggy door and fenced yard, which has made all the difference
in the world with housebreaking. A fenced yard with a playmate is at the top
of his wish list for his forever home. Caesar is neutered, vaccinated, micro
chipped, and like any other dog needs to take the monthly heartworm preventative
for life. He has no side effects from having heartworm now that his treatment
is complete.
Caesar is being fostered in Stark County. Please fill out our on line application if you are interested in making
Caesar a member of your family. He looks forward to meeting you! SIR

This handsome hunk of hound is Hank. Hank came into his foster home and made
it his own. He does very well with other dogs and cats. He is about 4-5 years
of age and is moderately active. Not wild but not quite a couch potato either.
He is low key and takes whatever attention he is offered. Hank has a pretty
mellow personality. He is up and into the thick of things when the other dogs
start to play but the rest of the time he is curled up on a pillow. He was
picked up when someone called him in as a stray but the humane officers really
felt he may have been an owner surrender because he seemed well fed. He did
require a common surgery on his eyelids to correct an irritation from his
lashes and he needed a dental but his overall health was good. Hank has been so
well behaved in his foster home that he has the run of the house even when we
are gone. He has not been a barker and can be crated without problems if
needed. If you are hound hunting, Hank wants you to know that he is hoping for

Update 11/18/2009 Homer is an 8yo neutered male who survived a great loss this fall and has learned to be happy again! He was "inherited" from what seems to be a long-time home, then was promptly dumped 3 days later at the dog warden with the label of "not too bright and stubborn". Can any of us imagine being plucked from our happy home and landing in a loud, cold, foreign jail? Homer stopped eating at the dog warden, a dramatic weight loss resulted with ribs & hips protruding. He became ill with a severe upper respiratory infection, requiring 3 rounds of antibiotics from OBR. It wasn't until he started to recover that his appetite returned. Homer has learned that life is good again, that food is yummy, and sleeping is even better! It is obvious that Homer was someone's adored pet- he loves the couch, people food, and being in someone's lap! Homer is wonderful with other dogs, is curious about cats, and LOVES children!! He is such a love-sponge that a child can hang on him, kiss him, pet him, and Homer just rolls over! Not too bright?- never! He learned the location of the biscuit jar quickly! Stubborn?- just a matter of relearning what couch is his! Homer is starting to pick up a few toys, likes squeakers, but doesn't seem to care for the Basset Romp through the house. He is becoming more vocal as the weeks pass. He does not bother the garbage, nor is he a counter surfer. However, we did discover that Homer has a thing for toilet paper, and will chew it right off the holder! Homer is UTD on vaccinations, & is on preventative heart worm & flea meds. Such a wonderful boy, handsome and smart! He gravitates towards children, so a home with younger ones would be his nirvana! Homer is waiting for the next chapter of his life to unfold! Daphney
is a petite 12 yrs old spayed Basset, weighing in at 36lbs. She came to
OBR after her owners of 12 years dumped her at a dog warden. Luckily
she made her way to the local humane society, and then into OBR's
care. A very frightening journey for this little girl, producing
much anxiety, barking, and weight loss. Despite the trauma, Daphney
has remained a "sweet dog". She gets along well with
dogs, cats, and LOVES children. There are no aggression or eating
issues, and Daphney seems to be holding her own with the Bassets
who are 20lbs heavier. She is starting to run in the house, plays
with the squeaker toys, and is quite the talker!! Daphney is young
in spirit, and has no health issues. We have been able to clip
nails, clean ears, & bathe without incident. In fact, Daphney
jumped right in the tub for her first bath!! She travels well in
the car, and is strong on the leash. Daphney is house-trained,
UTD on vaccinations, and is on heart worm/flea preventative. She
would be a wonderful, loving addition to any home. Don't let her
age fool you- she has much energy and love to share.

Snoopy is a great little guy- a cross between a basset and Jack Russell. He is profressional trained, is very social and likes everyone he meets. He is house trained and cratetrained and is happy playing outside in the snow or hanging out by the fireplace inside. Snoopy needs a fenced in yard with a great family who will give him the love and care he deserves. Snoopy is 2 yrears old, neutered, UTD with shots and microchipped. |

Buffy and Otis are 10 month old sister and brother who live every minute to the fullest. They came to OBR at 3 months old after their owner could no longer care for them. The happiest day of their lives is when they were adopted in October at 5 months old to a wonderful man they had no problem loving the minute they met each other. Fred, their forever daddy, would call me and send me emails how Buffy and Otis were the joy of his life. He said he might as well sign the deed over to them, they have taken over. He also told me it was the most meaningful check he ever wrote to pay for their adoption fee. I had the privilege of living close enough to visit Fred and Buffy and Otis. They had hit the jackpot having their forever home with Fred. Fred was one of those people that made you feel like family after spending time at his home, and Buffy and Otis knew they were loved.
Fred became ill in December. He was hospitalized and missed Buffy and Otis terribly. Their pictures sat beside his bedside, and his family took a video of them playing in the big snow and brought it for Fred to watch. Sadly, Fred unexpectedly passed away while in the hospital. Family members have been caring for the pups, but recently told me Buffy and Otis need more attention than they are able to provide. They will soon come back to their foster home and wait for a new forever home.
Buffy and Otis are housetrained, crate trained, and have always had a doggy door. They have never been apart from each other and want to remain together. They are used to having someone home with them during the day and now sad to be in a crate day and night. They would much rather be napping on the couch as they were used to. If you would like to give this dynamic and lovable duo a place to call home please fill out our on-line application. Buffy and Otis are spay and neutered, up-to-date with all vaccines, on heartworm preventative, and microchipped. They would like the chance to bring someone as much joy and they brought to Fred. They are being fostered in Stark County.
