Chloe
is an around 3-4 yrs old tri color female basset/bagle mix,
also know as a "bagel". What a sweetie. Chloe was
found nearly a year ago with her pups, starving to death in
a ditch. She has come a long long way since that time. She
is sweet, crate trained and very good with kids and people.
Chloe is special needs as she is on medication for seizures
and thyroid. The cost is about $20/month. CHLOE GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HER SMOOCH-A-POOCH

is a very sweet dog who has been bounced around more than a tennis
ball lately. In spite of this, she is adjusting to her foster home
and doing fine with the other dogs in the house. She follows her
foster Mom everywhere. She's very devoted and loving. She needs
a stable environment so she can unpack and relax for a change.
She is approximately 6 years old. She's very sweet and enjoys being
petted, likes rides in the car and loves to go on walks. She does
the happy dance at the sight of the leash and/or the food bowl!!
CJ would be fine in a home with another dog or as an only dog.
She is house trained and has good house manners. She has a beautiful
Basset voice too! Recommend children over 12. Won't you give this
beautiful fluffy girl the forever home she has been waiting for??
Click below if you would like to donate for
her vet costs (which will be substantial). Please contact Elaine Brown for more information.

Ransom
and Zoey are 2 yr old tri-color females who came into OBR as
puppies. These little ladies have had their share of ups and
downs and have come out on top. They arrived into OBR's care
in 2005 in the back of a truck with 26 labs and goldens from
a puppy mill bust in Missouri. They were both sick with was
thought to be the dog flu going around that year, however turned
out to be pneumonia and struggled to survive. Both are
now well and the only trace of the hardship they endured is
a cough from time to time when they play to hard. Both girls
have bonded through their hardship and must be adopted together.
When they sleep at night they will lay as close as possible
and at least one part of their body is almost always touching.
They are very friendly with all dogs, big or small and simply
love everyone and everything. Unfortunately, their hearts are
bigger than their brains and they tend to jump, yet are learning
to stay down. It would be best if they went to a home without
small children. They need a fenced yard, because since they
were puppies they've had this luxury and tend to enjoy it.
Both dogs are a joy to have around and will do anything to
make you happy. Ransom and Zoey have been in foster care for
awhile and desperately need to find a forever home. One that
can give them the time and love they need and deserve. Can
you open your hearts and home to a pair of friendly, sweet,
playful, fun little ladies that will do nothing less than warm
your heart with each passing day? Click on pictures for larger views ZOEY GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HER SMOOCH-A-POOCH

Updated 5-18-08 Ginger is a sweet, vocal senior lady. In the time she's been with us she's morphed from a dog with anxiety over being inside to a regular couch potato. This princess enjoys her people time most of all, but tolerates her goofy foster brothers very well. She is crate trained & will go there on command. Ginger loves to go on walks, is very gentle on a leash & loves to explore with her nose. She's ecstatic to see her people come home & will tell you all about her day. Handsome, smart,
active hound seeks loving family for moonlight or daylight walks,
evening cuddling, frequent games of fetch and tug and possibly
a friend or more If you want smart, curious and never ending
loyalty and energy, look no further. Ralphee is your guy. Weighing
in at just over 40lbs and the activity level of a young pup.
Ralphee is crate trained and good in the house. Ralphee likes
to be the center of attention when playing with the other dogs,
but seems to settle in to the pack over time. He is taking obedience
class and doing very well. Ralphee is curious and can get into
trouble, so activities that help relieve his boredom are recommended.
He can be vocal at times (what basset is not). He will need a
strong owner to show him the rules and help mold his behavior.

Okie is approximately
8-9 years of age. He was abandoned with two other bassets and
left in the backyard without any care for several days at a time.
Okie was heart worm positive but has received treatment and is
doing great. He is up to date on vaccines and recently had a
dental. He is a very young senior with still a lot of playfulness
left in him. Okie gets along with other dogs, is curious about
our cats and plays well with others. He is not food aggressive
or destructive in the house. He is doing well with housebreaking
and gets an A+ for his efforts. Okie is okay with being crated.
When we leave the house, Okie is put in one of our guest bedrooms
with one of our dogs with a baby gate in the doorway and he has
not had any accidents or caused any problems. Okie walks very
well on a leash and sits nicely for his food and treats. He loves
to lay next to you and is just happy to have someone pay attention
to him. At first he seemed a little hand shy, but with time he
seems to be getting better. I am sure someone is his past was
not that nice to him, but for all he has been through he is one

Wilson is a 3 year
old owner relinquish due to a change in family circumstances.
He is a very laid back, affectionate boy who loves all the attention.
He has not been around other animals or children, so he needs
a home with no other pets and either older or no children. Wilson
also has a very sensitive stomach and skin and requires appropriate
food for his conditions. He loves to go for walks and does well
on a leash. Wilson is housebroken and crate trained, but we do
not use a crate because he is so well behaved. He is also neutered
and up-to-date on shots. If you are looking for a quiet, dignified

Barnes

Babbs came to OBR as an owner
turn-in and after visiting the vet was found to be in excruciating
pain....who knows how long she suffered?! X-rays
revealed that Babbs has severe arthritis in her spine/hips
so a one-floor house would be ideal for her as stairs would
be extremely difficult. She is currently on Predisone
to reduce the inflammation and relieve the pain in her back
and will most likely need to be on some sort of medication
on and off when her arthritis flares up. A
few vertebrae in her spine have fused together making her
move a bit stiffly. (the fused vertebrae do not
cause her pain). It's hard to believe she's
only 6! Her hard life makes her look and seem
so much older. Babbs
is a fluffy Diva-in-Training but a real sweetie at
heart. She seems starved for attention
and will 'talk' to you if she thinks you're not giving
her enough attention or are moving too slowly in getting
her food ready! She always has such a hopeful
look in her eyes when she comes up to you to be petted. It's
heartbreaking to wonder what her previous life was
like. Babbs
would adore your undivided attention and would
prefer being the only dog in the house but if there
are other ones in the house she will insist
on being Queen! She has
been very friendly to everyone she meets and was
very well behaved around my 3yr old niece and 18
mo. old nephew. Won't you adopt Babbs to be the
Queen in your house? Update 01/10/08 Babbs is feeling a 100% better
and gets a maintenance pill every 2 or 3 days. She
plays and romps with the other dogs in the house and
will NOT let me take 'the boys' for a walk w/o also
giving her a short, slow walk too. She will not be

Carmen
is a 5 year old tri-color female found as a stray in Delaware
county. In the short time I've known her, it is obvious she's
had a hard life. She has had numerous litters and was literally
skin and bones when she came to her foster home. She's eating
very well and is starting to plump up a bit. She seems to be
a dog that has lived her whole life either outdoors or in a pen,
as the whole concept of being IN a house was just fascinating
to her. She is very timid, and has really bonded with me. She
follows me wherever I go, and if I should leave, she cries and
howls at the door for me. She is afraid of men when she meets
them for the first time. The first time my husband came home
from work and met her, she howled and barked at him, then ran
out through the dog door and barked at him from outside. He had
to go in the garage until I coaxed her inside and onto my lap.
When he came back in, she shook with fear and hid her head in
my arms. He won her over with treats, but she still approaches
him slowly and submissively. When strangers come over, she does
the same thing, shaking and hiding her head in my lap, but she
warms up to females faster. She gets along with our other dogs
and has started to initiate races with our big male basset. She
plays well with our 3 and 6 year old kids, and is a demon with
a tennis ball. She loves chewing on rawhides, but has not chewed
inappropriately even though my kids never pick up their toys.
Carmen sleeps with us, and when I come to bed each night she
snuggles up right next to me and buries her face in my hair for
a few minutes then goes down to the foot of the bed. She knows
HOW to use the dog door, and is starting to figure out WHY she
should use it, but we still have a few pee accidents here and
there. She's a very loving dog with the saddest eyes ever. She
needs a home with loving owners who will be patient with her
as she learns to not fear the world. Update
1/27/08 Carmen hasn't had an accident in the
house in over a week. Looks like she's officially house broken!! CARMEN GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HER DROOL LEVEL SPONSOR....SUE CLINE!!!!! CARMEN GIVES A BIG AROOO

Foster Home Needed |
Updated 5-18-08 Jolene came into foster care in January from a shelter in a rural area. She evidently had been lost for awhile as she was skinny and had ear and eye infections, worms, a bladder infection, and was generally in bad condition. She is in a great shape now and has gained weight and is free of parasites and medical issues. She is heartworm negative. She must have had a good home at one time because she does not have any lingering effects, either physical or psychological, from being homeless. Jolene is about 5 years old. She is comfortable meeting new people and being in new places. She likes kids and other dogs and even cats. She is very affectionate and loves to be cuddled, petted, talked to, and brushed. She isn’t lazy and likes a nice walk and going on car rides. She behaves herself in public and has even gone to work with her foster mom. Jolene doesn’t mind going into a crate if she gets a biscuit or kong. She is housebroken and has had no accidents in the house since her bladder infection cleared up. She lets you know when she needs to go out by prancing around in front of you until you get the message. Like most Bassets she barks a little but mostly just when her dinner isn’t being prepared fast enough for her. Jolene will be a good companion for a family, a couple, or single person. She does not make many demands except to get lots of pets and hugs, to sleep with a human, and to be included in outings when possible. JOLENE

is the sweetest senior, around nine, and there is nothing he
wants
more than someone to love and someone to love him. He was picked
up as a
stray and was just skin and bones, but he's looking a lot better
now.
He'll cheerfully allow his basset foster brothers to share his
food bowl
and loves absolutely everyone, although he will woof at them
a little when
they get up on the couch with him. He loves to sleep on the bed with his foster mom and really
loves to cuddle. When he first came into rescue he was emotionally
drained and so unhappy, but just the other day he actually
play wrestled with his foster mom for a minute. He'd be best
with someone

Updated 04/22/08 Abby is 8 months old and was born with juvenile cataracts. She went to a specialist, but was also diagnosed with a condition of having smaller than normal eyeballs and lenses. Because of this, surgery could not be done. She was taken back 2 months later and the eyes had not grown any further. Several days later she developed glaucoma in one of her eyes and the pressure soared, causing great pain. Sadly, her eye to be removed. The specialist said the other eye is now a time bomb and we are trying to save it with glaucoma meds. If they were to do surgery for the cataracts, it would immediately put the remaining eye into glaucoma so we have to wait a year and a half to two years for that surgery. She has regular pressure checks and so far so good. The glaucoma drops are $75 for a small bottle. Althouh, it has been determined that she can not see anything other than light and dark, it doesn't stop her from being an active puppy and into everything. If
you would like to donate to Abby's medical bills please click the

Update 06/23/08 Nashville (aka Nash) - Nash is a 7 year old male bagel (basset/beagle
mix) rescued from a shelter in Washington County. Nash is a wonderful
boy who loves to romp and play with his humans. Grab a football,
a rope toy, or just get on the floor to wrestle and he is right
there ready and waiting. Nash would be perfect for an active
family, especially if they had teenage boys. However; no young children for Nash.. He also loves to
give kisses, snuggle close, and sit in any available lap. If
allowed, he also loves to sleep on the bed with someone. Nash
does fine with other dogs and has had no problems with the cats.

Hi, my name is Flash and I am a nine year old tri-color, neutered male Basset Hound. My family is no longer able to take care of me so I am looking for a new home. I currently live with another male basset, Ben, who is also looking for a home. We do not have to be placed together. I am up to date on shots and Frontline but have not been on Heartgard year round so should have a heartworm test and get started on maintenance soon. I am cheerful and low energy but I can be territorial about food and my bed. I am excellent with children and am currently living with an 8 year old girl. I am also good with other dogs and with cats. Can you find a place for me in your home? I promise I will not be too much trouble and will reward you with lots of basset gratitude. came from a shelter in Kentucky. She came from a breeder, when OBR
called her owners they did not call back. The paper work says that
she was born 3/1/01. She is house broken, loves to play with toys and
plays with my dogs. She went straight to the groomer when I picked her up. She was so dirty, she had to have 3 baths to get her clean. She got a check up from my vet and he said that she had some bad teeth. She had to have 18 teeth pulled. The vet thinks that since she had come from a breeder that she was never given calcium and that caused the problem with her teeth. You would never know that this is the dog that I had picked up. She has the softest coat and the sweetest disposition. She is timid around strangers however; she warms up once that she feels that she can trust them. Rascal
is really an "Everything Bagel". He is between1-2 yrs old.
He is wonderful with our young kids , although he does jump when
he gets excited, he hasn't knocked anyone down yet. Playing is his
purpose in life. He loves plush squeeky toys and will bring them
to you, pressing them into your leg or arm, waiting for you to throw
it for him. He loves to play fetch and run in big lazy circles around
the yard. I think he knows he's fast, he will zip in, steal a bone
from our grumpy old Aussie (a big NO NO in her book), and get halfway
across the yard before she even knew what was done. He is house broken
and crate trained, but knows that if he can get in bed with one of
the kids before we put the dogs in for the night that he can stay
out all night long. He has tried to play with the cats, but after
they have knocked his block off a few times, he has decided to look
and not chase. He's everything you'd ever want in a companion. Just
take a nap with him, and when he wakes you up with his snoring, you'll
know he is the best dog ever. Rascal was recently returned to OBR
because his family could not find enough time in their day to spend
with him. Click on picture for larger view |

Jacquelyn Baker

jacquelynbaker@comcast.net |
 |
When
Boss first graced my doorstep, he did little more than sleep and
eat. So, his moniker seemed a bit odd for such an easygoing fellow.
However, he was still recovering from a hernia repair and vertigo.
Now, a couple of months later, Boss is living up to his name. My
nickname for him is Saucy Bossy, because when he doesn’t get
his way he’ll start telling you exactly what he thinks. Boss
is approximately 10- 12 years young, but don’t let his age
fool you…he’s a very lively and strong fellow. He’s
a real sweetheart who thrives on lots of TLC and being very close
to his people. He loves to eat, take long walks and be the only fellow
to command your attention. Boss has very long ears, so he battles
chronic ear infections. He gets an antibiotic solution in his ears
three times a week, and is very tolerant of the process. He has a
heart murmur and takes a pill daily for that, but since he loves
to eat, it’s no problem getting him to take his pill. Since
he’s such an active fellow, his weight hasn’t proven
to be a problem…yet, but there’s little else that captivates
Boss’s attention more than food…and long walks! Twice
a week he also takes Prednisone for joint pain and to try and keep
his allergies at bay. Boss would do best in a home where he’s
the only dog, and where the owners are home most of the time. Boss
was found as a stray, and he had a scar on his head that suggests
a larger dog might have attacked him when he was out on his own.
He’s very friendly and adores people, especially the people
who walk and feed him. J He’s very curious about all other
dogs and seems very friendly, but when he actually gets near another
dog, he tells them off. We’re working on that, and while he
is extremely head strong, he is teach able. He does need a strong
master to let him know in a gentle way, that he isn’t always
the boss. J He still has residual effects of the vertigo, and sometimes
when walking he topples over and needs to remain on one floor, as
steps are a challenge for him. Boss does share the house with Abby
the Cat, but he doesn’t appreciate sharing affection with another
four-legger. Abby doesn’t care much for dogs, so whenever Boss
walks by, she hisses and bats at him, and he tries to steer clear
of her most of the time. They are fed in separate rooms, because
Boss thinks all food is meant for him…even the food his people
are eating. He’s not aggressive about mealtime, but he is a
extraordinary beggar, and any food within shot of his mouth will
invariably end up in his mouth. Hence, the reason he and Abby the
cat eat in separate rooms. He is no respecter of another’s

Cossette is a 6 yr red & white female who was returned to OBR after her family decided they did not have any time for her. She had been spending allot of time in her crate, so the new found freedom of a fenced-in yard and an open ranch home with slippery wood floors has her a bit overwhelmed! Our 2 Basset boys welcomed her with open paws, and after just a few days there is wrestling, plus skidding while racing down hallways! Cossette loves to eat, loves stuffed toys, and will take all the petting you have to give!. We are doing a little retraining, but she is getting the idea slowly. She is non-aggressive towards cats and dogs. Now that she is feeling a little more comfortable, I can see that she could be a great counter surfer given the chance. For her 6yrs, Cossette has allot of energy! She travels well in the car, and is strong on the leash. She is just so excited to be out of that crate, she can't stand it! Cossette is up to date on all her vaccinations, has been spayed, is micro chipped, and is on flea and heart worm preventative. She would make a wonderful, loving addition to your home. Please contact OBR to bring this little girl home. To learn more about Cossette please fill out adoption application. COSSETT

What
a "winner" and what a slooooowpoke - hence the name Winslow!!!!
If you want a dog that has all the basset traits, this is the guy.
He lets you know vocally when it is time to eat, walk and/or go out
for potty and when he needs some loving. Heloves to ride in a car,
he likes to walk (doesn't pull too badly) and he loves to sleep!!!!!
Winslow is about 7 years old, house broken, ignores the other dogs.
He comes and goes at his leisure. He has full rein of my house and
hasn't gotten into ANY trouble (I think he sleeps all day). He is
a lovable fella and would make someone a great friend. Let Winslow
be your forever basset - he deserves it!!! WINSLOW GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HIS WADDLE LEVEL SPONSOR....SANDY HICKMAN!!!!! Click on pictures for larger view

from OBR four years ago by a couple in Columbus. They now have a
two year old son and returned Gilbert because they say he does not
like their son. Gilbert is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm
negative and housebroken. He is also crate trained and likes to sleep
in his big dog bed near the bedroom. He is very sweet and loves attention
and gets along fine with our three bassets and german shepherd. Can

Rusty
is a beautiful 14 month old AKC registered B-hound. He was relinquished
to the rescue by his family because of his anxiety around their teenage
son, resulting in hours of barking and hiding in the basement. He
was previously also in a home with young children, with similar issues,
but has never shown any aggression. In his foster home, he loves
to play with toys, has boundless energy, and enjoys his 4 foster
dog "siblings". He is comfortable and relaxed with females,
but does have quite a bit of anxiety with men still. After about
2 weeks of training, he is now able to sit with his foster "dad" without
barking, and doesn't run from him as much (big improvement!). He's
housetrained, loves going on walks & car rides, sleeps in the
crate (or your bed) happily. He is now neutered, microchipped, & ready
for a forever home with a family that will work with him to deal
with his issues. His good natured temperment is his best asset, and
he will show you this the first chance he gets! RUSTY GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HIS DROOL LEVEL SPONSOR....RONALD & SHARON ZIMMER!!!!! RUSTY GIVES A BIG AROOO TO HIS WADDLE LEVEL SPONSOR....VERA DEMMON!!!!! Click on pictures for larger view |

RoRo is a 6 yr old tri color female released to the shelter because her owner had health problems and could no longer care for her. She was released with Gracie and the two of them seem to comfort one another when frightened. When released their family said they were both house broken, great with other dogs, loved people, ignored cats, but wasn't really around them much. RoRo seems a little more timid than Gracie, but she is very sweet and is just confused by all the changes. She just came into OBR's care and is still being evaluated. RoRo is up-to-date on her vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, on a heart worm and flea preventative. If you're interested in learning more about RoRo please fill out our adoption application. Look for the PERFECT dog? Look no further!! Hi!! My name is Beauford, and I am a 5 year old, red and white basset. My foster mom keeps telling me I am the PERFECT dog because I am housebroken, quiet (I NEVER bark!!), and a cuddler! I love to go on walks where I can sniff and explore, to look out windows and see what is going on, and drive in the car to go to the pet store. My absolute favorite things are having my belly rubbed, eating, and sleeping. Although I would prefer to be around people all the time, I also do ok by myself. Usually I just curl up and take a long nap! The only things I don’t like are loud noises and long flights of stairs. Won’t you be my forever family? I have so much love to give, and I will be the best dog!! A note from his foster mom: Beauford really is an amazing dog. He is so mild mannered and content with anything. He loves being around people, and he has become my shadow. Again, he is housebroken and quiet, but the best part about him is his loving personality. Any family would be so lucky to have Beauford! Come meet him so you can see for yourself! Click on pictures for larger view

Trey is a real sweetheart of a guy. He is very gentle and does well with kids. Trey is about 3 years old and at about 45 lbs. is perfect for cuddling. He is crate trained and house trained. Trey has a submissive personality and has done great with all the many dogs he has met. For the most part he is a laid back sort of guy but does like to kick up his heels and do lots of running and playing when the opportunity presents itself. He is very interactive with people and enjoys your company. He does not jump up on the furniture but will allow you to lift him onto the bed if you want to take a nap with him. He has not shown any destructive tendencies or excessive barking. He is an all around good dog with a delightful personality Click on pictures for larger view |

I
am a very handsome basset at the age of 5. I have a very unusual
color being almost tan/red with white feet and white on my nose. I
was taken to the shelter as my owner was moving. I am very well behaved
the few days I was in foster care before being transported to vet
as all foster homes are full. I ignored the cat and other basset preferring
to follow the teenager in the home. I appear to be housebroken and
have not been crated having proven trustworthy. I am not destructive
and like to play with humans rather than toys I still am nervous
but that did not stop me from climbing into the humans bed and sleeping
under the covers with them If you are looking for a low key well
behaved basset pick me!!!! Click on pictures for larger view |

He's 2 years old and has only complete love and happiness to give to
the people around him. The story we got from the pound was that his
owners gave him up because he knocked over their 3 year old child.
But his paperwork lists him as a stray. Whatever the reason, he had
shown nothing but affection and care around my kids, ages 4 and 7,
and the boy I babysit (age 3). He learned quickly that the little people
always carry or wear food, and therefore treats them with the utmost
respect. Seriously. He notices, but does not bark at, or chase my cats.
In fact, he rarely barks at all. When our dogs do the "fenced yard
bark and run": with the neighbor dogs, he just tags along behind them,
happy to run and be around other dogs. Besides being quiet and happy,
Joey also loves to play fetch and with his plush toys. He does wonderfully
on a leash, loves to go for walks and rides and enjoys a good belly
rub. He is housebroke, we have a pet door, and sleeps either on a pillow
by the side of my bed or on a blanket on the couch. It's kind of crowded
in our home right now, so he's not getting all the love and attention
that he is ready and willing to give in return. So if you're looking
for a happy, playful dog who will love you forever, Joey is waiting
for you to submit your adoption application now! |
