OBR Alumni in their Forever Homes

Updated January 11, 2008

Bo

We adopted Bo in February 2007 on our oldest daughters birthday.

He had a very rough start (alpha dog attitude) in his new home, but has turned out to be a wonderful addition to our family.

We spend so much time just laughing at everything he does and he is so affectionate and loyal to everyone in the family.  We love him!

Bo

Bronco & Lily

These two couch potatoes are Bronco (top) aka Ollie and Lily (bottom). We adopted Lily in April of 2007 after we lost our beloved Elway. Lily is full of fun and is all puppy all the time! She loves to play and snuggle and always seems to get herself into trouble.

She has chewed up Rons glasses, shoes, newspapers and still has some housebreaking issues but we can never stay mad at her. Bronco came to us in October 2007. He showed the effects of what must have been some real hardships, he was scared, insecure and showed some serious food aggression. We are so glad we did not give up on him. He now seems happy in his forever home, and becomes more playful and loving every day. Bronco and Lily are becoming best friends, they play tag, chase each other and wrestle together and then sometimes take a snooze together. Having two dogs is a blast, double the fun, love and snuggles. Adopting them from OBR has taught us a valuable lesson.

Every dog is an individual, with their own personalities and their own set of issues, but with love and patience they all have the potential of becoming your best friends and a part of the family.

They just need to be loved

Alumni Pokey Image

Alumni Julie Image

We just want to thank everyone at OBR, especially Amy and Maribeth, for allowing us to adopt Julie and Pokey. From the moment they arrived here they have fit right in. They get along great with their new “brothers and sisters. ”Julie loves to run around in the yard and go on walks to the barn. Pokey follows us everywhere. He is my constant companion. Julie and Pokey deserve a great retirement here on our farm. We consider ourselves lucky to have them with us.

They are a great and lovable pair

Thanks again, Margie and Dona Western Maryland

Morris

Morris with Frisbee

Just wanted to let everyone at OBR know how the newest addition to our family is doing. Morris (aka MR.. Morris) is the sweetest dog and always happy. His entire bottom wiggles when he wags his tail. He loves going to the Vet and the groomers. Tracey, our groomer, lets him have run of the place when he goes for his bath because he loves to greet all the dogs coming and going. Everyone that meets him just loves him and he loves everyone and every dog he meets. After loosing our senior the month before we got Morris it was a real change to have Morris, he has so much energy I don't think we ever tire him out. He doesn't like to be left alone so he follows us everywhere.

He is still adjusting to his crate and hates to go in it when we leave for work but from the first night he was with us he has slept in our bedroom on his own bed, although he thinks our bed should be his as well. We just started bringing him to Doggie Day care and he is having a | blast. We are able to watch him on the web cam and I don't think he ever stops moving. He runs with the big dogs and doesn't have any problems keeping up but passes out in the car on the way home he is so exhausted.

We can't thank Amy enough for letting us have Morris. He has brought so much love and energy to our home. I know she wanted to keep him for herself but we are so happy she trusted us to give him a forever home.

One day we may be able to adopt another basset and you can be sure we will contact Amy and OBR again.

Penny & Monty

We are so lucky that OBR brought Penny (aka Gina) into our lives! She is so sweet, friendly, and happy. The best part about her is that when she gets very excited, she not only wags her tail, she wags her behind as well. It is adorable. Penny and Monty (our tricolor who is 1 year and 4 months) play nonstop.  Monty is with his new sister They are constantly doing puppy laps in our family room and yard and wrestle like it's their job. We can't imagine a better fit for our family. This picture shows Penny and Monty in their favorite resting spot after playing. Thanks to OBR for working with us to find our new basset and to the Maschinots who took such good care of Penny as a foster! -

Amy Ita and Rodney Middendorf

Doris & Rusty

This is Rusty along with Dore, our newest foster failure. From the day Dore walked in the house, Rusty adopted her.

They lay near each other all the time. Nancy, mom to the BBC Gang

Fred Parcell

We are so proud to introduce everyone to the "new" Fred!  When we picked him up from his foster mom, he would barely even let us touch him.  Once we arrived home, it took him 20 minutes to get the confidence to get out of the car.  Fred's first "parents" had beaten and abused him so much that the poor little guy was terrified of people and had taken to "fear biting." Once we coaxed him into the house, he had several "accidents" and refused to eat.  We knew it would take lots of patience to work with him but we were more than ready to do whatever it took.  Believe it or not, by the end of that evening he was following us around and sitting in our laps!  From that day forth, the changes in Fred have been nothing short of miraculous. He's really taken to his brother Floyd, our first basset, and they play just like brothers!  His eating is much improved - he sure loves his food! - and is now completely potty-trained (no accidents in over a month!!)   Fred is the absolute sweetest dog.  He enjoys hopping up in our laps and snuggling; he also likes to rest his head on our shoulders and just gaze up at us.  His crate-training is perfect and we feel he's very comfortable with both us and our house.  When we look into his big brown eyes, it is obvious that he trusts and loves us, and that means more to us than anything.  We can't thank OBR enough for letting him become a part of our family.  He had a wonderful foster mommy, Amy Barnes, and we really appreciate her and everything she's done for us.  Thank you all for allowing us to give Fred his forever home.  We truly can't imagine life without him!!

Bubbles

On June 15, 2007 Bubbles will celebrate her 10th Gotcha Day. Yes, we adopted Bubs from OBR ten years ago! Hard to believe. She is a little grayer and moves a little slower, but still has her zest for life and continues to voice her opinions and boss all of us around. LOL

Thank you OBR for such a wonderful girl! Judy & Jeff Faust Brownsburg, IN

Howard

Home Sweet Home for Howard Howie was adopted by the Ponikvar family

Jasmine and family

We adopted Jasmine on March 2, 2007.  As you can see, she has already made herself at home.  She is pictured with my daughter, who got just got through testing to let us know she is still in remission from cancer.  She was diagnosed in 2004.  The day we got the good news about my daughter, my husband picked up Jasmine.  If you didn't know better, you would think she has lived here for years. She just came in and made herself at home, We love her so much and are happy she is a part of our family. Thanks for letting us adopt her!

Howie

Hi, We adopted Howie, he's been with us for a few weeks now and is doing great. Here are a few pictures. He and his new "sister" Annabelle are great together.

We are having lots of fun with him! Thanks!! Ann & Marty Ponikvar

Snoopy and Sister

Hi Eva,

I emailed you earlier in the week regarding Snoopy.  I just wanted to give you an update. Snoopy came to us with allergy problems. My partner and I take  him to the vet once a month to make sure he is OK, we also order special food for him as well as supplements. He is doing very well. His big sister Buddy loves him sooo Much. They run around this house so much chasing each other. IT IS SO SWEET. Besides all of this Snoopy and Buddy go to the dog park at last 3 times a week! Snoopy is so loved.  I don't know if anyone could know the great life he has now. We love him so much!

Thank you at so much Steve, Rex and Buddy

Birdy

Hello. just a note to tell how Birdy is doing. Birdy has gained back her weight and is at her ideal weight of 45lb to 50 lbs. She loves just to be around us all and loves all the affection we can give her. She has definitely fit in very well with us all. She loves when the kids come over and plays with them constantly. She seems to be happiest at her place on the couch and during her walks. Birdy loves to tell everyone that someone has arrived and the tail goes crazy and she is definitely a joy to have. Thanks for all the care that was given to her before we adopted her. She is definitely a trooper!

Don Janeway

Forest is doing GREAT in his forever home.  He has adjusted beautifully to his new family and loves his new brothers (3 human, 1 dog). The pictures illustrate Forest's favorite activity.  He's gained about five lbs, which the vet has told is is just about perfect.  He's absolutely adored by everyone that meets him.  He's just an easy going, loving guy.  We feel so blessed to have him as a part of our family. Thank you OBR for allowing us to bring him into our home.   Lisa Prescott and family.

Hello! My husband Clint Buchanan and I adopted a puppy (Bosco) back in April. Since then he's grown soooo big! He's 1 years old now and has a great personality. He always is looking for someway to get attention! He and our other basset daisy get along great together. They love to play! Bosco (our puppy)went out in the snow for the first time yesterday. He wasn't too sure what to do he started hopping like a rabbit through the yard! It was pretty funny. I thought you like a update and i also attached a picture of Bosco and Daisy.

Happy Holidays,
Clint and Amy Buchanan

Toby

Toby went to his new home on Oct 3rd.  His new daddy, Mike Stafford, made this sign and had it in his front yard all week.  He brought it to show us today and I had to take a picture.

Toby is a very lucky boy, this family is awesome

Flash (left) was fostered by Gregg Applegate and adopted in June 2003. Flash loves playing "chase me" and "let's shred this cardboard box."  He hates evil bunnies and cats, and gets easily disgruntled when no one is paying attention to him.  Penny was discovered wandering without a collar by a co-worker and was adopted in April 2004.  Don't let the innocent face fool you! Penny is quite a little stinker: picking fights with Flash and burying bones in the couch cushions.  Thanks for the opportunity to adopt Flash and for all the great work OBR is doing!

We can no longer remember what it was like to not have a basset. Heather Bailey and Ron Bevilacqua

Here ia a picture of Bowser.  He is awesome.  He loves the other dogs.  We are just loving him - he is so precious.

Lisa A. Rowan

Susan Davenport in Columbus, OH adopted both

Tanner and Phoebe from OBR!!

Hi, Just thought we would drop you a note and let you know how our Millie is doing. She is the most loveable Basset we have ever known.

She always is right with us, every minute of every day. i don't think her tail has stopped wagging since the day we got her. We have finally gotten our fence, but when walking her, she is always beside us. She has gone camping with us, and Plato, and is always the favorite with other campers on our walks through camp grounds. She sleeps with us and always seems to have to be touching us, we never have to wonder where she is. Plato and her are getting along so wonderfully. they play together, eat together and of course sleep together (thank God we have a king size bed).

Thank You again for taking care of her. She is a really wonderful, loving dog, and are very fortunate to have her. Kathy, Stan, Emily and Joshua Taydus

I got Kaytie from Gayle Burnett two years ago.  She is with Santa and her "sister" Sadie, a black lab and border collie mix I found last summer on a dirt road in Zanesville.  She was a puppy with no collar/tags and was starving.  She has been good for Kaytie as she had gotten up to 52 pounds and her vet wanted her under 50.  Kaytie was 47.5 last checkup.

They are thick as thieves and are good for each other.

Ray Clark

I wanted to let OBR know that Buster is doing great. He has adjusted quite well to life with me here in Tennessee, although he's not too fond of the summer heat here in the South. Buster is a wonderful, loving dog and I can't imagine my life without him. He has grown very attached to me as I have to him. When I take him on walks, people always compliment him on what a beautiful basset he is. There's no doubt about it that Buster is true to the basset hound breed. I am very satisfied with Buster and with OBR. You all are doing a wonderful job. As a matter of fact, I am so satisfied with Buster and my adoption experience that I plan on adopting future dogs through rescue organizations. I always recommend to people considering a basset hound as a pet to first check out the basset rescue organizations. I know there are several great dogs like Buster who are looking for good homes.

Good luck adopting as many dogs as possible.

 Dr. Jeffery Taylor

My husband Mike and I, initially met Molly with her foster mom, Joey Thierry, at PetsMart. We had a basset, Daisy that we had bought from a breeder. So when we saw Molly we had to stop to pet her and talk to her owner. Molly was thin, her fur dingy, but when we petted her, she laid her head in our laps and just shivered all over. We found out that Molly had been abandoned and that she was available for adoption. We took OBR's information but missed our opportunity, Molly had already been placed with another family. We decided to adopt another basset in need of a good home. Our adoption application was approved but for some reason it never quite worked out.

A few months went by and I had given up looking when out of the blue I received a call. A basset matching the description of what we wanted had been found wandering in our area. I was given the number of her foster mom. I called up without much hope. It was Joey on the other end. She said the dog's name was Molly and that she'd had her in foster care before. I started to get excited. I asked Joey if she worked at PetsMart and if she had taken Molly to work with her in the past. The answer was yes. I asked if Molly shivered when petted, the answer was again, yes. I yelled to my husband, "Honey! It's THE Molly!!!!" He was skeptical, no way could it be the same dog. THE Molly had already found a forever home. I set up a home visit for a day or two later anyway.

Joey showed up on my doorstep with THE Molly on December 4th, 2000. Joey left and Molly stayed. Molly soon became known by many nick names including: Granny Dog, Molly Moo, Granny Moo, and the best dog in the whole wide world. It was beyond us why anyone would let Molly go. She was well mannered, house broken, sweet, and gentle. Molly settled in nicely and made friends with her new sister Daisy. Molly's favorite pass times were eating and sleeping. In fact, the most active we ever saw Molly was a dinner time. We would laugh as Molly did her hippity hoppity little dance and barked like crazy until her food bowl was ready. After dinner it was nap time and Molly would sleep so soundly, we would have to double check to make sure she was still breathing.

We are all going to miss her terribly. Molly passed away Friday, July 9th. Molly was somewhere between 12 and 17 years old. About a month ago she was diagnosed with an arrhythmia which caused her to go into congestive heart failure. We tried to hang on to her, but Molly knew it was time to let go
.
Thank you OBR, for letting us share Molly's life the last three and a half years. It was a privilege to know her.

I had this photo at work (I'm submitting it for an article in our company newsletter on pet rescue - putting in an OBR plug!) and thought I would send it for the web site.In the photo are Harvey (left) and Sam (right) in the front, and Peetey in the rear.  As you can see, they are happy, and noisy, companions!

Carol Felkey

Rufus has adapted well to life in Northern Michigan and enjoys the long walks, mostly because he receives lots of attention from all the neighbors.  Rufus had his first vet visit, and along with receiving a clean bill of health, he also won a few hearts of the staff who can't wait for his next visit.  Jean and I would both like to thank you for all your help and wish you the best.

Thanks again,

Dan and Jean Mooring

Casey was adopted by Tara and Darrell of Huntington, WV. Here he is with his new buddy Dixie just playin' around in the leavesCasey is the mostly white dog.

A very happy Scooby Doo with his new forever family
Jeff and Kathy of  Brookpark, OH.

Scooby was fostered by Cindy Stockdale.
Jasper thanks OBR everyday for his home and his vision.  Jasper was adopted 2 years ago from his foster home after being a foster for only 1 hour.  He was born with cataracts.  OBR send him to OSU where his vision was restored!  He  LOVES OBR!

Mozart    We adopted Mozart over a year ago from OBR and he has brought us tons of joy and laughter. His toy box is overflowing, and we recently moved to a new house where he has the biggest fenced in backyard in the whole neighborhood! He loves to play hide 'n' seek and frisbee with his daddy. Mozart had tons of fun at the 2003 Waddle, and can't wait to attend again this year!

Thanks so much OBR for all that you do. We just love our little guy.

Proud Parents of Mozart: Terry Sudman & Daryl McDonald

Katy and Sooner  -   I was in Rome for a week annd things have been hectic since I returned.  Katy is doing very well.  Her gums, from where her teeth were pulled have healed and so has the place on her neck.  She loves being able to go outside whenever she wants.  Some days Katy and Sooner will spend hours outside playing or just laying in the sun.  There is a pre-school program that operates out of our old school building and everyday at 9:00 am Katy and Sooner are both outside to greet the kids as they come to school and there when then leave around 11:00.  I've attached a picture I took today when they were in the backyard.  After I took the picture I realized I forgot to put their collars back on after their bath this morning.  I was teasing some of the ladies at my parish one day when I told them that Katy was just like a woman, she's always barking.

Katy and Sooner have been good companions for each other, a very good match.  Thanks for Katy.

Greg Bach

Katy and Sooner were adopted by a Priest in Kentucky.

As you can see they are very happy together! This is what resue is all about!

Levi and friends
Adopted by Brett and Margie Swanson
Erie, PA

Sassie Sassie, with her new sisters Nel and Win, is happy in her forever home with food slaves Beth and Mike. Sassie's former owner had terminal cancer and wanted to make sure that Sasssie would find a loving home.

Meg

Meg with John and son Tyler (4)
Elaine Shultz - Wooster Oh.

Meg is a success story in every way. She is now an excellent dog and a joy for us. She is also the reason that I volunteer for Ohio Basset Rescue, which has been very fulfilling for me. Thanks to Meg I also discovered the Daily Drool and found so many wonderful friends. Our family couldn’t be happier and we will never be without a Basset again!

Amelia was found after wandering in a corn field for days.

She was adopted by Sherri and Ron and now prefers potatoes (chips of course!) to corn. Family

Princess Princess, with her monkey, relaxes in their new forever home. Princess was originally adopted out with her brother last year.  She was not happy in her new home as she was not being treated royally like the Princess is. She was adopted by Tony, Dayna and her new love Elwood.  He understand she is the Queen and they treat her as such-including Elwood. They drove 6 hours from Pennsylvania to adopt this beautiful girl.  Elwood (basset) new it was fate when his Mom showed him the pic of the beautiful Princess.  Fostered by Mike and Andrea of Bellbrook, Ohio
I adopted Frank from OBR (Greg Applegate fostered him) a year ago.

This is the typical scene in my bathroom in the morning. Otis (the red white) and Frank (the boy on the bottom) lay in front of my bathroom heater while I shower and get ready for work. I tell my husband we need to remodel the bathroom so there is enough room for all of us, and get a bigger heater, as they soak up all my heat!  My reason for wanting to adopt Frank (besides becoming smittened by his picture!) was that we have a senir basset who didn't want to play with our younger basset, Otis. Well, Frank and Otis get along, as you can see, but they don't play together. Frank would like to, but Otis is a little 'stand-offish' about it. Infact if we are throwing one of the stuffed toys around the house for Frank to go after, if Otis gets to it first, he'll take the toy and go into another room. A couple of times, Otis has even taken the stuffed toy and placed it under his bed! What is odd is that Frank and our Senor basset will play a little bit. No great frolicking and chaos, but some nudging, prancing and yips.

Anyway, thanks to all of you at OBR, and Frank says "hello'!

Ellyn & Peter Colquhoun Red, Otis, & Frank
Tulip Hi, my name is now Tulip. Before my new parents adopted me (Bunne and John Baum, Columbus OH) I was known as Daisy. I came from a home in NE Ohio where my old dad abused me. My old mom decided that a new home would be better, so she gave me to OBR. In the first three weeks I have gained 5 pounds and learned to give kisses. Boy, do I love my new family and this forever home. Thanks OBR for being there for me.

DARBY
Darby has gone to her forever home with Rob and Michelle Priebe.  She is enjoying her new life with her "sister" Bear-Bear.  They enjoy chasing each other and playing.  They are very happy together.  Fostered by Mike and Andrea Tannreuther

COLOMBO
WENDY
Just a quick note about how happy we are after adopting Wendy. Rebecca was very helpful and everybody called me saying your organization was very thorough on checking us out. Wendy did wonderful on the ride home from Columbus to our house fifty miles northeast of Detroit. I'm enclosing a acouple of picture of Wendy and her new sibling named Rufus.

Thanks for everything,
Joe Zupancic.

P.S. The little boy is Justin. He takes very good care of his dogs, except for clean ups, that's my job.

CARLOS and BOSCO

Were adopted by Michelle Burchfield and family.

Maggie and Sophie (who were adopted from OBR in 2001) with Lucy (who was a local pound rescue) and my son Adam and his girlfriend Meghann.  Our Basset girls are our loving, spoiled babies.  They  provide entertainment for the entire neighborhood - including the mail lady and the UPS man.  What a joy!
Liz and Bruce Robinson and "the slobber sisters"

Quincy

QUINCY

As you can see Quincy LOVES the recliner. Thank you for letting me adopt this cornbread-stealing, pizza eating, sandwich dive bombing Basset! I CANNOT imagine my life without him!!  Jill in Oregon, OH.

Quincy was fostered by Elaine Brown

Fred

FRED

I've had Fred for almost 3 years now. He has grown to 4 feet long and 86 lbs. He loves everyone he meets and plays like a dog half his size. He also has his own recliner and his pillow that are off limits to others. He has been the best and I couldn't love him more. Joe

Hobo and Otis

Here is Hobo and Otis whom were adopted at two different times from OBR. They are doing well as you can see. It is a challenge to get them both to face the camera at the same time. They were adopted by Cathy from Indianapolis and fostered by Mike & Andrea Tannreuther. Hobo and Otis
llChloe
July 1st was Rosebuds 1st birthday.  Cheeseburgers, & ice cream for all the houndies.  Just couldn't resist the hats.
From Left to Right - Blossom,  Rosebud,  Chloe, and  Frankie.

Gotta go, party time!  Aroooo !
Here are my 3 girls.  My three musketeers.  They are having so much fun together.  Chloe slept really soundly last night.  They are busy playing right now.  They have a ton of toys, but chose to have a game of tag with my glove.  I gave Chloe her hugs and kisses from you and she sends plenty back.
Pwincess is well taken care of by her brothers. My son wanted to make sure Chloe was warm after coming in. They would never think to throw a blanky over me if I fell asleep on the couch!!!!!!!!!  I told you she is loved by all. I couldn't resist getting a picture of that.  Blossy and Rosie are on the other end. Maribeth
Mark and I adopted Hannah in November, she was being fostered by Gregg Applegate. She's a great little girl with a true basset spirit, laid back and happy. She's discovered "treats" and enjoys her breakfast cookie and evening treat of a pig ear or chewie, so much so she's gained a healthy 10 pounds since she's been with us. Especially after we discovered that she had a bladder infection which was causing accidents in the house, but she has a clean bill of health now. She's getting along great with her new brother Tyler, our eight year old male basset and enjoys sunning herself on the patio and snooping around the yard.
She's been a great addition to our family.
Mark Multhup and Angie Brown  -  Galloway, Ohio

Our names are Teddy and Annie and we are the bestest of furends!!  We were both adopted by Beth Vogel in Columbus - Annie on 5/11/01 and Teddy on 3/7/03.  Our mommy is very glad she found us and we are very glad we found her too!!! If you don't have a Basset Hound and are thinking about getting one, take our word for it - A BASSET IS AN ASSET!!

(Thank you, OBR, for all that you do and for finding me these two precious furkids - Beth)

Bubba (previously Bob) has been an awesome addition to our family.  Not only our immediate family but Grandparents and all.  Bubba and Gage (my son) are two peas in a pod.  As you know Bubba is in the 7 year old range and he has plenty of puppy left.  He has confiscated the couch as his own bed and he will move any of us if he is tired.  He is the perfect dog for us and we can not thank you enough for all your help.  Here is a few
pictures of Bubba with Gage and in his favorite spot.  Thanks again to all of you that helped us with our search.

The McCann's

We adopted Spot (on the right in the picture) from OBR in September 2004 and he quickly won our hearts and became part of our family.  He gets along great with his sister, Izzy, but he still enjoys chasing one of our two cats.  Spot and Izzy love to play together - romping through the house; rearranging furniture in the process.  He and Izzy recently graduated from obedience classes - one of the highlights of the week for both of them.  Spot even wore a graduation cap Larry had made for him.  We are very thankful to OBR for treating Spot for heartworm and hepatitis and making it possible for us to have him with us now.  He is funny, silly (when he does his moaning back rolls and belly rubs), adorable (with his big head), and loves to talk in his sleep.  He has even visited Larry's 3rd grade class and everyone loved him.  We are especially grateful to Melinda and her family for giving Spot a great foster home.  Thanks,     Larry and Julia Marple

My name is Rachel Spalding. My husband Craig and I adopted Candy and Indy in October 2003. I wanted to update you on how they were doing.  When we first adopted them Candy was 10 pounds underweight, skin condition was beginning to be under control, and she was very shy. Indy was a healthy, happy boy. When the hounds got here in Michigan they quickly made themselves home, Indy more quickly than Candy. We were able to find Dr. Kelly, a vet that specializes in Candy’s immune disorders. Candy was actually a topic at a conference on canine immune disorders! We’ve gotten her healthy enough that the only medication she is now on is her special eye drops and weekly shampoo. She’s definitely opened up and has become just as much of an attention hog as Indy. We are so very happy to have Indy and Candy in our lives. Thank you for allowing us to bring them into our home.

I’ve attached a photo of Candy & Indy taken at Christmas time. As usually Candy is guarding “her” toys and Indy is waiting for his favorite thing - attention.

OBR keep up the good work! We’d also like to thank foster parents Bill Smith & Marcia Eckstein and foster siblings Anne & Hunter!

Sincerely, Rachel & Craig Spalding

We want to give an update on Gracie. We adopted Gracie from OBR in December 2004.She has been a wonderful addition to our family. She has a lot of love and affection to share with us. She doesn't hesitate to tell her human slaves when she wants belly rubs, walks or dinner! We are very fond of her. Attached are some pictures we took earlier this year. Thanks to OBR for giving us such a wonderful companion. Best regards, Dave & Vera Demmon  (Click on picture to enlarge)

Here is Wilson formerly known as Big Red enjoying time with Gracie.

Libby was adopted by Lynette and Dale of Liberty Township, OH.

She is already a hit with their grandchild and gets along very well with Norman and Hudson, the other 2 dogs in the family.

Sadie

Here are the pics of sweet Sadie.  They were taken her first day living here with me.

Looks like she found her favorite spot!  The one that is a closeup was taking when she 'popped' at the camera just as I snapped the picture.

I just wanted to write a quick note about my son, Willie, who I have had for just about a year now! He has brought me so much joy, and I feel so lucky to have him in my home. He loves his daily walks, gets along well with his sisters (two cats), and loves to snuggle at night. We spend a lot of time at the family cabin where he enjoys the forest (for squirrel hunting) and the lake. Thank you so much for finding him and taking care of him until he came to me...he is the best dog in the world!

Johanna Ferndale, Michigan

"Floppy is adjusting very well in his forever home. When he is not eating or sleeping...or eating some more, he loves to play and go outside. He loves to sit in his big chair and watch everything that's going on outside. He did pass his obedience class...but we fear it was more because of his good looks than his actual good behavior! :) We're very happy with our Flop dog!!"

Thank you,  Kim Copeland and Greg Bader Columbus, OH

My name is Bubba and as you can see I'm adjusting quite well in my new forever home. I'm now living in Monroeville, which is a suburb east of Pittsburgh , PA with my new mama and papa, Joanne and Galen Grimes. Life is good. I get lots of good food (I gained 5 pounds so I have to watch my diet) lots of walks, and lots of bye-byes (I love to go for rides in the car). Galen is a professor at the local Penn State campus near here and he often takes me to campus with him. I love seeing all the kids and they usually make a big fuss over me. At home I even have a bunch of cat brothers and sisters and we all get along just fine.

Like I said, life is good.

Bubba & Mom

Hello,  We just wanted to drop a note to let you know how great Brinkley is doing in his forever home. We cannot express how much he is loved by us and our other basset, Oscar. They have truly become the best of friends. Brinkley has taught Oscar so many new tricks, as Oscar has shown Brinkley the "ropes" of our home.  Thank you to all who made this happen, especially Maribeth. Now that we have Brinks, it is hard to imagine our life without him there.

He is truly the BEST snuggler around and oh so lovable!

We adopted the basset formally known as Bo (now known as Bubba) 6 months ago.  I remember seeing him on your web site and thinking, this is our dog.  We already had a beagle named Daisy and she was ready for her brother!  MaryBeth fostered Bubba and was the best foster mother ever.  Bubba still has the toys she sent home with him.  Needless to say, Bubba was the missing piece in the family.  The first night we had him home, Bubba and Daisy nested together in the bed and have been inseparable since.  They go everywhere together, when I had Daisy at the vet a couple of weeks ago, the vet commented that he couldn't believe that they had only been together for 6 months, because they acted like litter-mates.  I can't quite put in to words how much I love Bubba and how thankful I am for the rescue.  We took Bubba and Daisy to the Big Drool and had so much fun.  We will be participating every year and are always spreading the word at how awesome your rescue is.  Again, thank you so much for everything that you do and for holding on to Bubba while he waited to come home to his family. Thanks, Chryss, Dave ,  Bubba, Daisy, Muffin, Bell and Charlie

I wanted to give you all an update on Chardonnay who we adopted in April 2005.  Now she is called Lucy, she took the name change very well. Lucy is a permanent part of my family. My wife and I have grown very attached to her. It is so nice to come home and have someone there happy to greet us. She is often found running in the back yard or just laying in the sun. I love the fact that she can sleep while we are at work and is ready to play when we come home. Lucy is my wife’s first dog. Joanna was nervous about getting a dog, however they have developed a tight bond now. Every time I see them on the couch together, I remind Joanna that I was right about Lucy!!

Thanks for the great dog.   Joseph Stephens

Here is an update on Lou, adopted in March 2003 by the Ward Family from OBR where he lived with Greg Applegate.  Lou is really enjoying life in his forever home.  He loves to sleep on the bed, talk walks in the morning, and he LOVES getting petted.  Lou is a fun and easy-going guy who is really loved by his family.  Proud parents Chris & Wendy have a baby on the way to join Lou in an every-growing happy family.

Thanks to OBR for allowing us tohave such a special dog in our lives.

My name is Kara,

I adopted Wyatt last April.

I am pleased to say that he is doing very well and we love him very much!

Reggie is doing very well.  We hosted Ray's family and there were several small children here.  He was very good and played with them and made new friends.  Today he got a bath after his hour on the bike trail and didn't seem to mind being scrubbed too much.

We hope to get him in to see the vet for a check up, etc this week.

He's not spoiled :-)  Rani & Ray Piar

Well, Sophie Jolene just turned 2 last week........hard to believe!!!

Here is a cute photo of her howling!  : )

She is the one right in the middle, of course!  Oh, and another one of her asleep on the couch......so cute!!  The other Prince's and Princess' are Baylie (red & white), Skipper (red & white mix), Jennie (tricolor mix), Joey (white & mahogany), Maurice (mahogany & white).

Luv Monique

My husband and I adopted Miss Grover the last week in October, 2005. She is a delightful addition to our family which includes an eight-year old cat named Kismet. Grover acts as though she has always lived here. We have a large backyard where she chases the squirrels, tries to find the chipmunk she knows they live under the deck, barks at the joggers and the school bus and loves her treats.

She still does not like thunderstorms or high winds and trembles like an aspen tree, paces the floor and pants.

Otherwise, she is doing great in her "forever home."------- Helen Friedman

We came down looking for a play mate for our Elvis since Susie passed away. and you brought out little skinny Tilly who was a stinker. I remember poor Elvis didn't want anything to do with her and ended up getting stung on his nose out side the Vets. building. He thought that way he could be going home by his self.  Well to make a long story short. We Love Tilly and she is to SMART for everyone up here including our Vet.  We all love her. Elvis and the cat are surprised of all there fun and her sneeky ness on how to start or get what she want. We have never had a more loving and caring set of animals ten these three.  Been wanting to share some pictures and write just always had work and other things in the way. Now that I'm (James)  medically retired they are real big babies.

Thank you

The New Arrival!

A Basset’s security depends on the people and places they are familiar with, having lost both of these, a Basset is apt to be frightened and insecure. The Basset may appear timid, slightly agitated, or hyperactive.

Introducing your new Basset to your present dog is very important. A little effort by you up front can mean the difference between success and failure. Because dogs are territorial, introduce them in a neutral place such as a park. Once they have played together (on leashes of course) take them back to your yard together. Now watch the fun as they “bond.”

Try to be relaxed and calm with the new arrival to help them relax. Remember that two hands are there – one for the present dog and one for the new, Also be careful with children that they don’t neglect the old dog for the excitement of the new arrival.

Training a new dog to keep their new house clean is helped a long way by first taking them through your house on a leash. This will give you much more control if the dog decides to urinate (marking new territory or just plain excitement). Most news dogs will have a few accidents until they learn this is their new home to keep clean. Praise the dog profusely when you see the dog go outside, and give a sharp “no” if you catch the dog going inside (and immediately take them outside).

A dog may wish to go outside, but not understand that you will open the door for them. Try to watch, and see if you see them pass by the door and head for the back of the house, call the dog and put the dog outside. Going to the back of the house is an attempt to get as far away from where the dog lives as possible. Pacing around the room is another clue.

All dogs adopted through Ohio Basset Hound Rescue must be kept inside the house during the day and sleep inside the house at night. Putting the dog to bed in a confined area is the best way to keep them from relieving themselves in the night. They are most comfortable being in a room with you or another dog, if this is not possible, put a blanket or pad down in a comfortable area void of drafts.

Grooming Bassets is not a heavy burden. The biggest care for a basset are the ears – the ears need to be cleaned once a week. Their toenails should be clipped every couple of weeks.

Bassets like to roam. If your dog gets out, please call Ohio Basset Hound Rescue before you go looking.

Good luck with your new arrival! Like so many other things in life, you get ont of this experience exactly what you put in. remember, especially during those first few days, your dog doesn’t really know you, your habits or your house. Give your dog a little time and lots of love and the rewards will be many. We’re always here to help assist with any questions that you may have. Another good source is your veterinarian who will have a lot of information on pet care and training.
