Holly's Story...

Updated 10/12/2009

Holly came into OBR the first week of May 2009. For nearly 6 months, Holly has been in a kennel or crate. This is very sad for any dog and is unacceptable for a dog who has done nothing wrong. For a rescue like OBR who is flooded with dogs, our foster homes are beyond full. Holly doesn't do well in an environment with other dogs, especially as many as most of our foster homes are housing. Holly prefers her people attention and will do anything to get it. When you go in to her kennel she will give up her playtime for the opportunity to sit in your lap and lick your cheek. It's obvious she is desperate for love and attention and doesn't understand how or why she ended up where she is now.

Before OBR was contacted about Holly she had already been in the dog pound for a month. On top of not doing well in a multi-dog home, she is not a purebred basset and isn't stirring much interest. This is very sad considering she did not have any choice in who her parents were. Holly would make a lonely senior or someone looking for a low-key, very quiet dog a GREAT COMPANION. Please we are asking everyone to put the word out that she needs a loving home. We are starting to see a change in her personality, she's losing hope...

Holly is a 7 yr old female basset mix who was rescued from the Wooster area the day before she was scheduled for euthansia. She was found as a stray and brought to a county shelter.  When her time was up, the shelter staff contacted basset rescue on her behalf because they couldn't bear to let this sweet senior girl go.  She looks more dachshund and possibly Lab than basset.  She sniffs like a basset but doesn't bark like one.  Whatever her heritage is, Holly is a friendly girl who rides well in a car and seems to be housebroken.  She is also good in a crate.  She is okay around other dogs but may need to be separated at feeding time.  She will also let more rambunctious dogs know when she has had enough of their antics.  Holly is in good shape for being found as a stray.  We can't know what kind of life she had before she ended up on death row at the dog pound, but we're sure she will make some lucky person a nice, low-key pet in her golden years.

We are VERY happy to announce that after months of searching, Holly's dreams have come true!!! She has found her forever home with former OBR adopter Kristy Warner. A quote from her new family just days after her arrival. "Holly is WONDERFUL." Thank you everyone for making this happen for Holly. She will be forever grateful that we continued to believe.
