Reggie came into OBR's care April 30th from a HIGH KILL shelter in Scioto County, Ohio.
That was short lived, because the bad news came fast, real fast...I went to the vet and tested positive for heart worms and whip worms. I wasn't so worried about the whip worms, probably explained why I was so skinny. The heart worms were a bummer, because those can be painful or so I've heard. I was coughing a little bit, but still felt okay. After my neuter, I trotted out of the vet office with my head held high and let out a loud howling bark. I knew then I had been through tougher battles so that was nothing. I was still pretty skinny, but was eating like a champ so even though I had worms, I was starting to pack on the pounds. Then out of no where, it got bad... real bad... I started to throw up, not a little, but a lot. I wasn't hungry and anything I ate turned to diahrea. For a full day I couldn't keep anything down. Everything that went in, came out with an explosion. My foster mom knew it was serious so I was rushed to the veterinarian hospital. By then, I was too weak to stand up. I had lost a lot of water and had a high fever. When I arrived at the vet hospital it was a complete blur. I was too weak to walk so they carried me in. Immediately, they started hooking me up to IVs and pumping fluids in me. Everyone was worried that I wouldn't make it through the night. I heard them announce the bad news.... I had PARVO, a sure killer in young dogs if left untreated. Most likely I had picked it up while I was out wandering or living in the dog pound. It usually takes 10 days to show up and it did, in FULL FORCE. So now I'm spending my Spring in a vet hospital resting and getting stronger. I wag my tail and look forward to my people time even though there is a lot of poking and medication. I can't wait until I get the chance to play in the grass again, because I was sooo close to feeling the love and happiness I've spent so much of my life without. I'm taking each day one-at-a-time and begging you to send DROOL my way, because I can surely use it to get back on my feet.
