Kirby is still looking for his forever home! From his foster momma:
Kirby is a beagle weighing 30ish pounds. When Kirby first came to us he was very scared and timid. He quickly warmed up when we took a walk with him and our two dogs.
The younger dog really helps Kirby play and come out of his shell, so a home with other dogs might be helpful! Kirby is absolutely going to need time to get comfortable with you, but he's worth it!
Kirby's paperwork says he is 5, but because he was a stray, we don't really know. What I can say is he seems younger to me because his face doesn't have any gray at all. He likes playing with the younger dog, but he can quickly settle down and take a nap with our older dog.
Kirby is working incredibly hard on potty training. I have reason to believe that at one point, he may have been housebroken, or he is just a quick study! He will whine if he needs out while in a cage, and has been going to the door, hitting door bells and scratching to go out. I can't make promises, but I think he knows something! He has only had 1 pee accident in the first week, and it was our fault.
We walk him every 2-3 hours, as he was a known escape artist in the last home. He is currently sleeping in a cage at night.
Kirby seems to be a grazer. He hasn't eaten all of his food at once, and likes to pick throughout the day. As a result, we have to put him in the cage for him to eat, and offer throughout the day because of the other dogs. He is skinny and needs the groceries right now, so we're trying to make sure he gets enough!
For some reason Kirby is terrified of vehicles. We will be working with him until he is adopted, but it would be best to crate him for transport!
Overall, I think he will make someone a great little friend. He has obviously been through something traumatic, and needs time to warm up, but when he does, he is a lover! He likes laying with me in the morning while I drink coffee, and a before bedtime. He enjoys playing with the younger dog, but he absolutely loves snuggle time!
Kirby's bad behavior is easily corrected by a stern "no" at this point because he is so timid. Give Kirby 3 months of your time, and training and watch him bloom!
Kirby's adoption fee is $250 and he is currently being fostered near Marysville OH. He is neutered and all up to date. He does not require a fenced in yard as long as he will be actively walked in his new home. Another 4 legged playmate would be a plus!
